The is of course mostly my own fault but its really really really p***ed me off

So there I was on Sunday Afternoon at the Prymaid stage about halfway back from the front of the stage in the glorious sunshine(I think I can't remember what the weather was doing then) taking a few nice pictures with my 70-210mm lens(bought esp for Glastonbury) then suddenly over the top of my head fly's a half full(or empty depending on your outlook) tipping its contents over me and my nice shiny 4 months old Sony A200(which isn't a top of the range DSLR but I'm a poor student and its the best I can afford!!) consequently I turn it off instantly, start to begin wipe off the water whilst preparing to put it back in its bag  and let it dry out! Check it before I go to bed on Sunday eve look through the view finder to can't see a thing due to the bloody condensation so leave it to the morning. Monday morning I take it out of its bag hoping for the best, I look through the viewfinder to see if there was any condensation which there wasn't so turned it on hoping for the best and there was...... nothing, not a sausage, dead as a dodo.

I then take it back to my girlfriends parents house and leave it on top of the gecko case to try and help it dry, so then go back up to Pilton because I was doing litter picking, (again I wanted my camera to take pictures of the site as it was going down as I thought it was quite a interesting side) got back yesterday raced into the Geckos and put the battery back in, and still nothing.

Therefore for most of today I've been emailing Amazon and Sony trying to find someone to try and sort it out for me but at the moment its not look particularity good

So overall there really isn't much point in this thread more of a warning to people with cameras!! At the end of the day I took something to Glastonbury which I wasn't prepared to loss and I "lost" it so its pretty much my fault.

Oh yea, whilst I'm on the subject of throwing water, to the girl in front of me at Blur, water is for drinking not throwing. Yes it was hot in the crowd, yes I wanted a drink of water however I didn't want it over me. Once was fine(I was boiling) but three times in a few minutes is not funny, the security stopped giving it to you for reason so I assumed (and security) the next time they handed you a glass of water you would stop throwing it, we were both wrong, the guy who poured his over you was well into his rights to do so!!

I know I sound winghy and everything and I'm sorry for that however as much as I love Watchmen I did not enjoy watching it Sun eve freezing cold soaked to the skin. I was not happy and still not.

So thats generally everything and if anyone is selling a old DSLR (preferablly a Sony) please PM me

Unlucky. I would have thought Sony would have a service centre that would do a repair on it?


I've got my un-weather-sealed nikon wet a few times but no lasting damage (yet) though I've had it go wobbly briefly. Remember though that cameras don't take very good picture if you leave them at home and there's always risk. My nice zoom lens lens needs repairing cos it fell out of my bag the week before glasto (not at a festival but on the way home from one), it was in a lowpro case but the top was unzipped so the lens was sticking out a bit...and guess which end it landed on?

Balls! Sorry to hear that, have you managed to get the photos you had taken off the memory card? Hopefully all is not lost.  Is it covered under any form of insurance? Accidents like this very often occur at home nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Good luck!!!

Damn, sorry to hear about your camera.   I was trying to decide for ages before the festival whether to take my DSLR....but decided i really didnt trust myself...especially when ive been drinking

Hope you managed to get it sorted though.

Oh and i just noticed your from Taunton as well....what's your name? If you dont mind me asking.

aww mate sorry this happened. I took my sony dslr too. I kinda regret taking it if im honest tho, as i was on SUCH a parranoid train every time i had it, i didnt propperly relax, and would put it in the lock up by about 9pm EVERY night. (and even one day i didnt bother getting it out again as i got too drunk too early!) - so the 'better/funny/interesting' photos of night time didnt exist...all together i must have had about 70 photos. (i dont really bother taking pictures of bands, more a people person lol) - where last year i took some £60 digi and tbh i had ALOT more pics...and dare i say it 'more interesting' ones.

I was on such a parra with my camera tho, as its not insured AND it was a very special gift...somthing i could never afford to buy myself.

Not that my story will make you feel any better

Well ultimately I'm glad that I took my camera with me becuase I got some nice shots and as kerplunk pointed out cameras don't take very good pics at home!! It's under home insurance but thats all so it may have happened at home

however as its only a few months old I'm intedning to try and blag it under warrenty to be honest if not chances are I'll send it to service center provided it isn't a huge amount.

Another upside is that it was on Sunday rather than Thursday, so I managed to get all my pictures off the CF card so am currently working my way through all the pictures(just under 2000) can't belive I took so many!!

well that's a bit of  a shame, damaging/losing things is never good

probably a stupid idea, but what about covering the camra in a plastic bag, with a hole cut out for the lens? just to try and protect it from wet weather / people throwing water/beer or whatever

I do admire the SLR crowd - I would never chance my lovely SLR at Glasto as a punter - maybe if you were working and being responsible, but when you're spending all day drinking etc, it's a cheapo digicam all the way. Incidentally I did take a plastic underwater pouch for my camera - I've dived with it down to 30m so thought it might cope with Glasto, haha. Didn't use it in the end though, but if you're planning to go into the mosh pits, this might be the answer..
