Heard many tales of people well over the age of 25 being IDd and refused drink because they had no ID!

I know you are supposed to carry this shit around with you but when...like me, you dont drive, you are well over 25 and funnily enough dont want to carry your passport around with you at the G...what can you do???

The girls and boys working behind the bars were sometimes well over ten years younger than my good self...so it was all a bit ridiculous...turning into the bloody US at times!

Anyone not get served becuase they are 25+ and have a babyface!

Didn't go to the bars very often to be honest - brought a load of cans with me - but didn't get ID'd once, and have never been ID'd in previous years. Not to belittle your post, but just find it odd, never heard of the bar staff ever bothering, so I want to hear if anybody got ID'd and not served n' all.

I do find it annoying when I get ID'd by people who are blatantly a few years younger than me in supermarkets though - usually for cigs as well, not even booze - 'think 25' is just a bit silly.

Loads of my mates got ID'ed this year, and we're all in our mid-twenties.  It's never happened in previous years, and none of them are particularly babyfaced, so I think it must have been a new directive for the bar staff.  Seemed to be particularly prevalent at the bars in The Park..?

However, only once did any of them actually get refused service.  It seemed a friendly, "come onnnn...you've got to be taking the piss...?", appeared to suffice in place of showing any actual ID  :D

I'm 17 and I didn't get IDed a single time at the Brothers Bar (which I went to quite a lot) or the bar nearest the Pyramid. The only place I did get IDed was the Bimble Inn. Even last year I didn't get IDed...

Having been on the bar I found it generally was down to how busy the bar was and whether the bar manager was in the area at the time. They do take it seriously that if a test purchaser gets served then it will be a problem.

I'm 22 and got ID'd everytime I went to the bar. In the end I stood with my driving license in my hand with my money each time I went to get a drink.

totaly agree Lucy

i got ID'd in the co-op a while back, im 24 , soon 25..6`2 and not small, i dont look 17..

i said to her 'are you joking? she said to me no why' then luckily some other worker said 'you only have to ID the ones who look under 18, he's fine' ..she thought you id everyone

lol

i also got ID'd at Morrisons, 'got any ID' 'no' 'got any id' 'i just said no, dont worry about it'

and i got id'd at ASDA lol

'i cant serve you you have no ID, try another till' of course i suspected id be told to f*** off at anmother till now, went anyway she says ;'are you over 18' 'yes' 'are you sure haha' 'yes lol' i think she was taking the piss

im sure it's been this year and last its got OTT, i got ID'd at the bar at reading last year, by someone clearly younger than me -so i just go off to another bar and get served

it's annoying, as you said Lucy - i refuse to carry my passport, it's an important document, and fraud/id theft is so rife, dont want to risk losjng it/having it robbed

A server can get a massive fine if they are caught selling to under age - possibly a new implementation of the law this year, hence them being ultra cautious.

Brian from WBC talked about this quite a few times here in the run up.

Unfortunate for those who didn't know to bring ID of course.

Weird, I hardly look my age (18) at all and regularly get IDed in pubs but the brothers bar didn't care and just served me without thinking about it!

We were chatting to some of the bar staff and they had a quote of ID's to do each day ! Thats maybe why some people found it a little oppressive. Cant blame the bar staff if they doing what they told, there was 3 of ranging from 31 to 39, we all showed our ID for a laugh to give them 3 more to tick off their quota

That's crazy. I'm starting to think there's a few nutters involved in running the festival these days.

quotas and targets, thats what everything has become in the UK

an arena, i hope not..it would be quite hard surely due to the masive area of the site, and all the different areas?

There was no quota system.

However, each time a bar staff asked for ID, they had to record it on a sheet.  If all your mates had recorded 30 IDs and you hadn't recorded any, you'd stick out like a sore thumb.

And then if you got hit by one of the 'Mystery Shoppers (underage customers sent round my Mendip Council to check if the bar staff were doing their jobs) you wouldn't have a leg to stand on and could look forward to an on-the-spot £60 fine.

The simple fact is - it's incredibly difficult to guess some people's ages.  Nothing personal.
