We heard a few people's conversations as we were passing by but didn't believe it, then we got to the brothers bar and they started playing Michael Jackson songs so thought it must be true! Was really sad!

We were walking around somewhere (no idea where) and heard someone talking really loudly and in a very suprised manner about Crisitano Ronaldo, then a few yards later someone saying 'I can't believe he is dead!'. That was a real WTF moment, but then we heard it was Jackson who was dead and my utter shock turned to real sadness.

Was a mental night, absolutely everyone talking about it.

Walking up from East 17 towards the Park when someone rushed up saying "I know this sounds mental, but do you know if Michael Jackson's dead?"

"No... it's Glastonbury, someone's winding you up mate"

"Yeah, that's what I thought, but I've just had it on a seperate text message too"

"Are they at the festival?"

"No"

"Do they know the first person who told you?"

"No"

"Shit."

*hats on crooked out of respect*

I was at getting a toasted sandwich from the stand next to the John Peel stage when the guy working there asked if I knew anything about it. This was around 11.45, something like that on the Thursday night. Went for a drink in the Tolpuddle and everyone was on their phones trying to find stuff out.

I got a text from my best mate at 23:05 saying the BBC were reporting him dead.  Naturally, when I tried to tell anyone about it, they thought it was a wind-up.

This was the same mate who broke it to me on the Sunday of the 2005 festival that Richard Whiteley had died, so I was inclined to believe him.

Yup...10.39pm text message from a random number...phone had hundreds due to CT...it was a rumour...they always are...immediately started to sing all sorts 'Micheal Jackson's topped himself...you can sleep safe in your beds tonight children and so on...we were in a very happy Gay Meet conga...honestly honestly thought it was a rumour...didnt go into Babylon ever so didnt hear any tribute music...still thought it was a rumour...been going to G for 14 years now...rumour too good to be true...made it back to CT...still not believing it...5am forced someone to show me an IPhone...still didnt believe it...

kinda did when we got the Saturday Guardian...and promptly pinned the headline across my top...with words removed'....... ........ doctor who was with Jacko when he died'!!!!! f**king PRICELESS!!!! Found the tribute wall in the Caberet field...will be posting the image of this as the comments are ridiculously good! The best being...'still hoping it is a Glasto rumour'!

This kept rumour going in head until I got back in RealWorld™ and bought a couple of papers.

The best rumour/reality that has ever happened to the G...even better than the rumour/reality of John Major resigning as we arrived in 95! When you get a rumour...you start it and then let it get out of hand.

Actually before I left for the fest I was wondering what this year's would be as there is never anything actually true when the rumours start (although secretly with some you wish they were...see any Thatcher rumours for the past 15+ years!) MJ...not expected which is why this one was disbelieved for so long by hundreds!

I was sat around a fire on the Pyramid field when some random bloke came up to us and told us, it was the most surreal thing I've ever experienced while at Glasto.
I didn't believe him at first until I heard someone else mention it, I also heard he was 1 of the special guests to appear there too.

No matter what anyone else says .. he was one of the greats with true legend status.

We were walking past the Other Stage when we heard some bloke mentioning it, saying something like "we have to let the festival know". We assumed he was trying to start something for a prank.

Later we went to Avalon for the Hobo Jones gig and they started singing bits of Jackson songs, talking about "paying tribute" to him. Had to turn on my phone to check the news, and it was a truly surreal moment to have it confirmed.

I was in The Snug around 10.30-11ish with a couple friends who got texts. I didn't believe it until I called home and they confirmed.

Very sad, though the tributes around the festival were ace. May he rest in peace.

The Dance Area became Rumour City as people departed East 17... with lots of people searching for someone with an iPhone to confirm the news as no one believed it, but too many people had heard about it...

I didn't hear anyone discussing the East 17 performance...

On my way out from East 17 at about 10.45. A  couple of kids told us, but had a slight smirk on their faces so didn't even think twice about it. My Glasto-virgin friend couldn't get it out of her head so tried to find some news on her phone. I said theses rumours happen at festivals every year and to just ignore it. She then pulled up the BBC News site and we all huddled round and saw the stories, but they were all quite non-committal. So I text my mum and she said she'd keep me updated. After about 5 texts I got one from her sating 'unfortunately it's just been confirmed. xx' and immedidiately heard Smooth Criminal in the background. Was really weird.

On a funnier note, about half an hour later, while back at our tent stocking up on our booze, the young scamps camping next to us (who were all sound, really) were there too. One came out of his tent and one of them said, 'o, mate, Michael Jackson's died.' He immediately replied with 'What? I just come out of a K-hole and you tell me that?!'

maybe you had to be there, but it was bloody funny.

We heard it announced on Worthy FM, then after the next song the presenter upgraded his condition to "seriously ill", then after the next song he was dead again. we were trying to tell passers-by, but of course no one believed us!

Heard some girls dancing and laughing who then ran up to us and shouted, jacksons dead to us. I knew it wasn't real of course as this sort of rumor always appears at festivals, and why would they be so happy about it?

The next day some guy had a BBC news story up on his phone in Dance East who was showing everyone. So sad
