Just a few signs, located about 50 foot back from each of the main stages, that's all it would take.

How about it Mr Eavis?

it was the chairs that got me this year. The flags are tolerable but the ocean of fatties sat in chairs was unbearable.

I blame bruce springsteen

While flags can be annoying I’ve learnt to live with it and doesn’t bother me that much. Chairs are also fine if people are sitting at the back but this year a couple of times at the Dance world stages and other stage there were people sitting in their chairs less then 10 metres from the front. Selfish pointless and stupid, they can’t see a thing from that close, and they seem bewildered when everyone around them starts jumping around and bumping/tripping over them.

There were a few people in chairs right at the barrier yesterday, right up untill Madness! I think they would have stayed there if it wasn't for it being so mental down the front for Madness.

1st come 1st served.

there were sum old folk camping @ front of pyramid all day from 10am holding out for madness i think.  sum girl got behind them about 10 mins before tom jones came on and ask her to move up, she point blank said NO.  and the girl was like 'yea but thats space for 4 people'.  the woman told her she was disabled and needed the chair regularly.  in the end the girl lost after i piped up sayin she had been camped since 10am.

the girl turns up minutes before and DEMANDS that sum1 thats been there since 10am MOVE up?!  HILARIOUS!

If people are too fat / lazy/ incapable of standing for any length of time they shouldn't be at the front at a standing gig, there is plenty of space in the back ot the field to sit, wheelchair users have to use the viewing platform at the top of the hill. It's a simple health and safety issue, in a dark crowd chairs are a trip hazard and prevent the crowd entering and exiting the front of the stage area, the OP has it spot on.

I agree with  bombfrog. The number of times we would stand in someones view who was sitting down and they would tut and get disgruntled. If you wanna see someone make an effort and stand up and dance.

However it didn't bother me too much and I still had a great time.

So, by your "first come first served" logic I could turn up at 7am in front of the pyramid and tape off an area for me and my mates, maybe start a fire and pitch a tent? As long as I get there first I can do whatever I like, right?

No, that's not the way it works! There are disabled viewing platforms for those that are genuinely disabled, so if you can't stand up then go there, you get a much better view than you would sitting in a chair behind a load of people standing up anyway!

Why are people so bloody selfish?

no tents allowed.... try again...

those disabled bays are for those that physically cant stand at all.  not the same thing.  these people dont sit the whole way through, they stand for a bit then sit.  either way being behind then when they sit if better 4 u as u have a clear view.  plus they tend to be short anyway so shouldnt really bother u unless ur a shoortie.

but either way if ur there from day break no1 else that comes later has a right to 'ur space', just coz their in a better position than u.  if u cared that much u woulda got there earlier too.

so clearly the 1st come, 1st served way IS the way it works.  i dont get how ya'll dont understand that?!

hilarious u think its 'selfish'. bloooooooooody hilarious.

About 10 mins before dizzee rascal played bonkers, a bloke was pushed like 2 or 3 ppl away from the front of the crowd in a wheelchair and the stewards told him to move - he refused and i didnt see what happened after that - anyone know the outcome?

Bollox. It is no more a H & S issue than trying to walk over mountains of litter, wade through gloopy mud or slipping on a discarded pizza or load of chips in the dark.

You think anyone can just go and sit on the platform? Do you know how contolled disability access is? You couldn't get on that platform with a broken leg

You're being ironic here I guess?

i actually love the flags they give it such a great feel, the more the better imo if you are that far back they get in your way then i doubt you can see much of whats going on on the stage anyway.

but those c**ts with the f**king chairs need to f**k right off, especially when they get up out of the chairs and leave the chairs unfolded for you fall over and when you knock them they turn round and give you dirty looks for knocking the bloody things!

^^This^^

Nearly killed meself going for a slash during The Boss. And the owner gave me a telling off.

I've taken a chair to the stage before (in the 07 mud plains), but stayed well back behind the mixing desk and when we stood up, folded the chair up and watched with it in front of us... Seemed like the polite/sensible thing to do..

Still like the flags though, It's not like you can see a huge amount on stage. I think they'd be missed if they weren't there.

Surely people sitting on chairs in the middle of the crowd while an act is on is a Health & Safety hazard, is it not?

It's a festival with over 175,000 people on-site... don't be surprised if some people do things that you find annoying; Glastonbury is one of the least restricted big festivals in the UK and should be appreciated for it.

For the record, at the Speakers Forum, Michael didn't seem moved to do anything about chairs in the arena, but was vaguely more interested in the flag problem - if they were causing problems with the TV pictures / screens.

Remember:   The sooner you start banning things you don't like, the sooner they'll ban something you do like!
