Time to ban flags from the stages?

Have to say I feel the numbers of flags got a bit silly this year. I would have loved to see the stage at some point but the shear number of flags totally obliterated it for most of the weekend. Does anyone else think its got all a bit out of hand?

I love flags.
I had no problem seeing the stage and it would not be what Glastonbury is about to 'ban' flags.

Just from watching on the tv the pyramid stage looked to have loads more flags than the other.
The flags do add atmosphere.

What F***ING atmosphere is that then ???=##''//*&$ ..Do i wamt my vision of the stage or screens blocked buy some F***ING PRAT with a football club flag, or Che Guvera...NO I F***ING DON'T I also don't want a flag in my face or drink by even more F***ING PRATS walking around the site with them erect. I can see the use in them around the tents, but not in front of the Pyramid, or Other stage...Same argument i know every year, but it needs sorting. Other than that i thought the festival was OK

Stage that will be seen on TV = loads of flags.
Stage that won't be seen on TV = no flags.
Coincidence?
From anyone who went - was it any worse than last year, or pretty much the same?

Just got back and yes;the flags were a bit ridiculous this year. seemed twice as mny as last year. i personally like the flags, but half as many would've been fine.
great festival however

Yeh the number of flags was ridiculous this year. if you were behind the sound stage then you couldn't see the stage. And that was that.

The thing is, how could they ban them?
if they start doing things like that, and people are stopped from taking x or y into the crowd, you'd start to get an arena mentality, which goes against everything Glastonbury stands for.
They're a pain, but banning them would cause no end of problems IMHO.

I was watching the coverage on TV and the amount of flags was rediculous. In many shots taken from the crowd the stage was barely visable. Would the "atmosphere" be changed by banning them from the arena? Doubtful.
Time some of the festivals did this IMO. How about glasto next year banning them for one of the days and then seek comments before banning them for good the following year!

But how do you ban them? The site is so open, the reason it's such a great place is that once you're inside, you don't get 'frisked' by security every time you go to a stage.
The only thing I can think of is in the programme and on the screens by the stage, put a polite notice up. Would that work? Almost certainly not, but maybe worth a try?
But to be honest, I'd rather put up with the flags than have the main stages become like arena-style stages.

just stick another couple of screens to the side of the pyramid and the lazy buggers at the back can watch it just like it would be on telly....from sound desk forwards you see all you want and the flags are fantastic.

I dont have a problem with flags, it's the women sitting on their boyfriends shoulders in front of people that get me annoyed.
If you MUST do it, at least have the decency to take your top off and flash your norks. At least rthat way i'll see something.

So when you say lazy buggers, you mean (For example) those with kids and those who aren't physically able to get nearer the front?
Bit harsh me thinks.
Flags for me aren't an issue...what is an issue is the knobheads who set off emergency flares and bloody roman candle fireworks in the middle of a crowd with no consideration for anyone around them.
Disgusting.

So....everyone should get of their lazy arses and go to the front ??? So glasto can join the list of football stadia and one or two other places where there have been dead crush victims.
At times, there can be around 70,000 in that field - how do you propose to squeeze them all in front of the mixing desk ??
Thats a silly comment - the fact that some people are OK to lie back and listen / wathc from a distance is the only thing that makes it viable.
Were you at Maximo Park or the Jazz Stage walkway during Rolf ?? Because those very compacted crowds are not a good idea too often - people get hot/bothered/panicky/dehydrated/sick/squashed...etc

I prefer flags to inconsiderate w**kers who try to record the whole f**king gig on their phones, which involves completely obscuring your view of the action.
An absolute pet hate of mine. Getting a quick photo is fair enough, but the amount of people at gigs who want to record the whole bloody shabang is ridiculous.
At least some flags are amusing and have been lovingly created.

Quite right too.
I have been at the front of a crowd at a festival in the past and had to be pulled out by security/stewards due to fear for my life (No exaggeration).
You ever been crushed by thousands of people? Not a nice experience...not at all.

Hmmm how do we all get in that area then, maybe better to have a much higher stage...?????, TOSSER
