We all know about the massive, mega, big-name line-up, multiple stage, super-festivals but what about the small, intimate, 1 or 2 stage, 1 or 2 big name acts ones? A small festival, one where you don't have to worry about rushing between stages to catch the big names, where you can relax and perhaps take in your own booze & chairs.

I'm from Australia and we have a number of these sort of festivals, normally in a nice natural sort of setting in the bush, like Golden Plains, (see some photos from the 2009 Golden Plains) here....has anyone been to this sort of festival in the UK? Which ones can you recommend?

I reckon the Green Man Festival in Wales looks pretty good. I've never been but will be going this year. The lineup looks awesome and I've heard that the location is stunning. http://www.thegreenmanfestival.co.uk/

How do you define "small festival"? Green Man is still £120 per person - thats not small to me no matter how many stages it has. Gutted really because it always has an amazing line-up.  Secret Garden Party has the atmosphere and line-up to match - £140 per person.

Festinho for me  ;)

Rhythms Of The World in Hitchin is really nice now they've moved to the new site.

And its only £7 per day

And Jon Otway's playing too!

:) Festinho looks really interesting - we'll def be looking into this one - especially considering the PC crew's love affair with latin culture! :D

Rhythms of the World also looks good - fantastic value for only £7 (and interesting to see that The Fish Brothers are playing - it would be worth going just to catch that!?! :D).  The only problem is that there doen't appear to be any camping :D  Are there any cheap campsites in the Hitchin area?

It's £15 for an Early Bird ticket and there's free camping.

It's set in a rural location between Middlesbrough and Newcastle.

It's taking place on Saturday 5th September.

You can watch the bands from the comfort of your tent!

easily the square festival in west wales, £45 for 3 days of bands over 5 stages and plenty more random stuff in between (8ft gnomes for example). Also its right next to a beautiful beach and has a brilliant atmosphere. Supergrass, 65 days of static, fight like apes, the anomalies, the holloways are only part of the line up this year and with the licence now granted the music will be going on til 3am every night :D sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!

The 2nd Singing Sticks Didgeridoo Music festival is on the 9th-10th-11th July 2010 in Northamptonshire.

It is a festival for people just like you who are interested in the didgeridoo and other related music, It is a friendly easy going event with a relaxed and laid back atmosphere.

It is a very safe and secure venue and is very children friendly as there is also a children's play area on site!

Last years festival was packed with people from ALL walks of life and ALL ages

We have artists and bands coming from ALL OVER THE WORLD TO PLAY FOR YOU!

This is possibly one of the best unknown specialist didgeridoo festivals out there in england

STRUMMERCAMP is surely among the best. 3 days of rock n roll for very reasonable price. Really friendly atmosphere. Blockheads will rock the tent this year. Few tickets left at strummercamp.co.uk.

Knockengorroch World Ceilidh - and it's soon, end of May.

It's in the Scottish 'bush' - one track road dwindling into dirt road, crazy bridges over creeks, camping along the river-side and even on an island in the river...

Not as expensive as most of the others, either.

It's as close to an outback festival as you'll get in Britain. A little bit feral... in a good way :P

The South Devon Festival is going to be small but beautiful!  Will Young is headlining with Ade Edmondson & The Bad Shepherds, Ella Edmondson, The Wurzels and a total of 18 bands taking part over 12 hours!  Loads of free workshops too to amuse everyone.  Tickets only £40 and £2 for kids under 12.

+1, and its on the edge of the UKs only 'dark sky park' a spot of land noted for its excellent night light quality (that is lack of artificial light).
