Sooo... we are flying down from Edinburgh then getting a taxi to the site (not as expensive as it sounds!) and aiming to camp at Pennards.

Last year the taxi driver dropped us at some place where you then had to get a bus accross the fields which took forvever, and I also sense the walk from the bus drop of point to Pennards would be very very long. So the question is, where is the best/closest place to get the taxi to drop us?

I think you can only get dropped at the drop off point, and if they did drop you at west carpark you'd have to walk all through the carpark to the gate which is miles!
