Im in a quandry...dont know whether to buy wellies or waterproof boots,
obviously boots are more comfortable, but wellies might be a bit more practical...maybe not...
anyway
could you please reply which you would choose and give a reason why....
by the end of tonight i will have made my decision
Thanks.

When ever I tend to wear my Doc Martins (waterproof leather and really comfortable) it always seems to rain, making cleaning getting mud and grime from them real hard, as laces + mud = a pain in the bum,
I've started to take Wellies now as a decent pair shouldn't rub to badly, they're easy to clean and you can paint them all different colours without more than a £5'ers hit to your wallet,
It is all down to preference though

Waterproof boots
Boots are far more comfy, but more expensive for a decent pair.
When the mud dries wellies can get stuck in thick mud leaving you wobbling around with one foot in the air
I've taken both to the last 3 festivals to be on the safe side and only used them for the great flood of 2005. I'm leaving them behind this year

Oft debated, long thread here from when I had the same dilemma (I went for boots and gaiters in the end)

I've got some high-tops that have lasted me well over the few years. Very sturdy. Survived two Reading Festivals and paintballing this february. I think they'lll do fine for me.

over 10 glastos and i've never had a pair of wellies. walking boots are great for any weather, and so long as they are waterproof, suffice in the wettest years.

Same here.
10 hole Docs all the way.
More comfortable, ideal for all terrains and all weather conditions, usable outside of festivals.
Don't come off in sticky mud.
Easier to run in.
No need to change footwear with changes in the weather.
A little bit of care, and they'll last for years...

I used walking boots in 2005 with plastic bags inside, over my feet (they weren't very waterproof!). They were completely ruined by the mud by the end though, almost not recognisable as boots. Had to go straight in the bin!
I'll be taking wellies and boots this year but will wear wellies if it gets really liquid-muddy.

My mate opted for walking boots in 2007, which were good until the mud got so deep that it reached halfway up his bare calves and he had to spend each night drying his legs by the fire and peeling the mud off.
Walking boots wouldn't have been much good after the 2005 storm either when there were lakes to navigate....
Wellies every time for me - never let me down so far - leave them in the car until needed though

I used boots between 97 and 2007, but 2007 was the final straw for me and I converted to wellies last year... infinitely better!
Having to deal with laces covered in mud is just horrible.

Use gaiters, prevents mud caked laces.

My boots did just fine after the 2005 storm..
Remember that some of the lakes were several feet deep.. Unless your wellies are waders, they ain't gonna do you much good either...
