Is it a myth that by law a small amount of tickets has to be made available on the door for events like this, i.e gigs and festivals?

Given that the agreement with Reading council is that there will be NO tickets for sale on the day, then yes, I guess its a myth!

Why would there be a law to make that happen anyway?

Maybe in the past it has been part of the agreement for local residents (I believe that's how it started) but with the massive increase in popularity of the festivals it has become a logistical nightmare to sell tickets on the day.

As I said above, check out the council website

There's no law saying they need to, but it's generally considered good practise to keep ~1% back in case of delivery cock ups, people with a disabled ticket who don't meet the requirements for a disabled ticket, etc.

What they're saying this year is that if one of these happens, and you haven't arranged to collect the rearranged ticket from the Oracle, you ain't getting in. How strictly that's enforced remains to be seen, but they won't be selling tickets at the Oracle to Joe Public.

i wonder if they will just have a box office and sell them on site anyway, like a temporary thing, and all the 'no tickets on sale at site' was to stop a mass queue like last year

I doubt it, thats a grand way to not get a license next year when the published agreement with the council was no ticket sales on site

It wouldn't actually shock me if the police, along with FR's own stewards, did ticket checks/ confirmation email checks before even letting people leave the train station.

Thats unlikely, "I'm sorry your not allowed off at this train stations because you do not have a reading / leeds festival ticket"

You can't stop people getting off trains for that reason.

Just noticed on the see tickets websites it doesn't say 'tickets sold out' for any of the admission tickets, only for the early bird tickets. The others all just say 'tickets unavailable'. I could be reading too much into that but strikes me as if they're saying 'none at the moment'.

That is probably the case. They WON'T be selling them on the gate though, they'll be selling them, unannounced, via Seetickets. Although given that they can't sell them on the gate, there may be a late, announced one.

If that does happen, they'll sell within minutes, so keep your eyes peeled and keep trying See.
