I agree, just get a cheap pair of wellies.

Pah.
I've got through '97, '98, '05, and '07, with nought but a good pair of well-treated Docs and comfy insoles.

No leakage, no waterlogging, far superior for traversing multiple terrain types, and no need to go off and change with changes in weather or ground.

More comfortable, better fitted, less likely to come off.

I've never taken wellies, and I never will.

I can never forgive them for the death of my boy...  :D

:D

I agree, I have decided to go for the double layer of socks and my boots, I am using my money for bottles of factor 50 instead  :P

walking boots every time! helps with avoiding ankle breakage as well. remember to wear them on the way in and have trainers or what ever in your bag to save on weight and space. wellies are hopeless and just fill up with water if it rains or get stuck in mud and come off, they also have no grip.

enjoy glasto, it rules!

Only thing i hate with walking boots is when you come to take them off and the laces are just caked in mud and crap, gets every where.. maybe some good quality wellies may suffice.

Of course, if it's not muddy, then that's not really an issue...

A good night by the fireside soon dries that mud off anyhoo.. dead easy to remove.  :P

I was just wondering about the wellie question today. I do have a pair of walking boots so, as I don't have wellies, I think I'll take them seeing as the consensus here seems to favour them.

I have been at Glastonbury in 97,98 & 07 and have never needed wellies - my walking boots have always been fine.

Of course I wasn't there in 2005 but then I think it was too deep even for wellies then!

I was... I have to say that the trip to the Garlic Kitchen counter was a bit of a challenge... but it was also posing a problem for wellie-wearers... so no biggie..  :(

I will never leave my wellies at home, i'd rather look at them than for them. I left them in the van in the car park in 2005, big mistake. Since then they sit in my tent porch.

In the muddy years, I imagine wellies are pretty good for the wet, watery mud.

But the thick, claggy mud you can barely pull your foot out of - I don't know how you'd get through it in wellies without leaving one behind.

I've always worn 7 hole Docs. Wade through most puddles, and generally have dry-to-damp (never sodden) socks at the end of the day. Undoing the laces at the end of the day can be unpleasant, but you just wipe your hands clean on wet wipes, and everything's fine.

However much the stall holders want to charge for them.

Generally, the worse the conditions, the more expensive they are.

I did 05 in a pair of deck shoes, there was so much water to start with it was going over the top of wellies anyway.  Feels funny wading though knee deep water to start with, but after a while you get used to it.
The Saturday was worst as it was sticky and slidy - simply had to go everywhere slowly.  Didn't fall over once either !!
