I would have to say that as a personal preference because they are one of my all time favourite live acts (despite what some have said)... However if you are a Neil Young fan at all I would say see Young, purely cause he may not be around THAT long :S Whereas hopefully Bloc Party have a fair while to go yet.
However based solely on what will be a better performance to watch, I would say Bloc Party. Helicopter, Fluxx, Like Eating Glass, etc. Are all AMAZING live

of a choice between the two. neil young without a shadow of a doubt.
i will be at aninmal collective though. regretting not being able to split myself into three. then there would be bloody remains of me at both neil young and erol alkan as well.

HOWEVER watching back their 07 pyramid performance i thought they were BRILLIANT. i think they are more suited to really dark venues, which is y i dont understand how they were so tripe @ reading last year.Point well made....
I like Bloc Party quite a lot, but have always had the feeling that they don't have the presence for bigger outdoor stages. First couple of times I saw them in such venues they were really a let down... last couple of times they seemed like they had slightly more confidence, but still... better in smaller venues I reckon...

I personally don't argree with this philosophy, the way i see it you should see who you think you will enjoy the most, and dont just see an artist to say 'i have seen x'. Imagine Bloc Party gave the performance of their careers. I say just go with what you think and dont see someone just because they may croak soon =p
thats my thought anyway,

Usually close with Helicopter.
If I was able to go, I'd check Neil Young out.
I rate Silent Alarm in the top 5, if not top 3, of the decade, and despite their fairly appalling recorded output drop-off in recent times, I still have a fond spot for Kele and his bunch. I'll be catching them at Reading, no doubt.
But Neil Young has a raft of amazing songs - all of which I've just started getting into - plus he's a true legend and can still play like a fiend at the age of 60something which is highly commendable. He's a rarer commodity live, as people have noted. Bloc Party will slowly decline in popularity in the next few years, play smaller venues etc. but still tour. Young won't.
You guys are all so freaking lucky.

Bloc Party vs. Neil Young is my biggest clash.
On the one hand, I love Neil Young but I only have Goldrush and Harvest so I don't think I'd know a lot of his set. I expect this'll be my only chance to see him though..
On the other, most of my mates will want to see Bloc Party and it's who you're with that's important. I also love Bloc Party and I think they're on particularly good form at the moment.

i was a big Bloc Party fan until i saw them live, seen them twice at leeds on the main stage and they dissapointed me both times, but go with your gut dont go and see Neil Young just because hes a legend, he will put on a good performance but if thats not your thing find someone else, your not just restricted to the Pyramid and Other

No such thing as an invalid opinion, if there was one, it'd be saying Bloc Party will be better to watch than Neil Young... like you just did

It still wouldn't touch a below-average Neil Young performance, but it won't be below-average, it'll be f**king immense
Each to their own though, I just think its awful that Bloc Party are headlining the Other Stage, as people said, they'll probably be playing down your local soon, like Kaiser Chiefs etc.

Neil Young without a doubt. First gig I ever went to was Young Glasgow SECC, was 13/14 and it blew me away(!). Going to see him in Aberdeen on the Wednesday night and still dragging my boyfriend to see him at Glasto!! An absolute legend, there should be no question!
