How many unemployed peeps are going this year and have you told the jobcentre.

Don't need to tell them. I sign on the week after and it's only two days away (if you go after working hours on Weds) for the first week and one day the next week. You're allowed 14 hours (working hours, i.e. 9-5 twice) per week away from job seeking.

It's the first time I've been unemployed in 10 years (since leaving Uni) and I'm doing all I can to find work. I need Glastonbury more than ever this year!

ARRGHHH - the boss came down South today unexpectedly and advised we were under consultation for a possible relocation of the whole office to head office up in Sheffield  ;)  (we are in Surrey).
If i don't move (I can't) then I will be made redundant in August. crap.

not a good time - took tent to the new forest at the weekend to check it out and the zip broke off the door.  thank god for gaffa tape but i'm gonna have to look for a new one now.  arse!
and this weather sure doesn't help my mood.

I'm not considering missing glasto by any means but this was the one year i was gonna say funk it and scrap the cooking idea and buy everything.  maybe next year . . . .

Super noodles anyone?

I really don't like the idea of signing on. Can you do it online or is that far too lazy?

Had been unemployed for a few months but have actually got a job working for the dept work & pensions.  Just waiting for my start date which will prob coincide with Glasto!  They'll just have to wait tho as it's a pre-booked holiday. :o

Could really do with the money so I'd rather start sooner than later but they seem to be taking ages!  (applied for the job in April!!!)

I got made redundant in January (for the second time in 6 months) and was out of work for 3 months. When I signed on for the first time the lady told me that I would have to let them know if I was having any foreign holidays as I'd need to sing off when I went and back on again when I came back. Glastonbury is going to be my only holiday this year so I told the woman I was going and would I need to sign on again and she said that if I'm away for less than a week and I'm staying in the UK I was fine and I didn't need to declare it to them. She just said that if I needed to sign on during Glastonbury all I needed to do was ring up and re-arrange my appointment.

not to mention that a fair few of the jobs require specific training / experience.

Sorry but you're an idiot.  I don't know if you're puposefully trying to be antagonising to the people in this thread, who are going through a tough time at the moment, but comments like this do not help.

A lot of job sites leave jobs on the website for months after they've been filled just to keep them looking appealing.

Depending on what sector people work in, what they're qualified or expierenced enough for, location there are more jobs available to some than others.

I've been lucky enough to find myself a job after four months of being made redundant in the construction industry and have taken a pay cut to get myself back into work.  Making out that the unemployed are too lazy to work is highly insulting when the majority just want to be employed like they were before the shit hit the fan.

Well said i totally agree with everything you've said.

What about an unemployed meet as suggested by someone else in this thread. That would be cool unemployed at glasto drinking cider in the sun with fellow tax dodgers. If interested start a thread and get signed up.

I was only made redundant on Monday with immediate effect - sucks big fat hairy sweaty things, but Glasto is already paid for & spending money already saved. Got my fingers crossed for everyone on these boards who is in or has been in this situation - I'm only new to it so can't say I really have had to deal with the full impact yet like some of you. Just got everything crossed that everyone can get through this as soon as possible. At least the atmosphere of Glastonbury will provide some relief for a few days & hopefully give everyone a much needed lift

I've only been put out of work once, in around 2001, but I knew I had to get another job sharpish because I needed to pay the rent so I took a job I didn't want to take and stayed their for 6 months commuting up to 4 hours each day.

There are plenty of jobs available to those that will take them but many people claiming benefits seem to think they can be choosy about what kind of job to take, they think they're above taking a menial job that will pay the bills

Yeah! clearly I'm the one who's in the wrong here, working 80 hour weeks, paying lots of taxes and never having been unemployed or claimed any benefits.

I'm unemployed and going but had bought my ticket before being made redundant.

And the jobcentre don't know nor do I see and need to tell them.

No doubt there are some people like that.

However it doesn't make your original generalising and insulting statement any truer!
