Hey all
I have been given tickets to the Hop Farm Festival which is set in Kent (website here)
This festival is only in it's 2nd year so I just wanted to know if anyone is going or if anyone went last year and they can tell me what they thought.
I'm looking forward to it indeed!

It was good last year: sound from the stage was fine and it was easy to get near the front, though it rained for the first few hours. Not too hard to get from the station.
If they didn;t shoot themselves in the foot by making fratellis a headliner, i would've gone this year.

Has this not been cancelled yet? Surely it's only a matter of time.
Poor Vince, in all his rush to organise a festival without ticket registration and VIP's he seemed to forget to put together a bill that anyone would pay that much money for.

Im with you paul, its got ot be one of the most lobsided lineups of the summer. On the sunday you got mr weller, editors, doves, sfa and on the sat you got fratellis, pigeon detectives, view and ash. being the top 4 on each day.
I also thought about doing this festival but would only go for sunday and its a bit far just for one day.

Thanks for your posts - I agree the line up does look more delightful on the Sunday but better that way around so the festival can end on a high.
What about other things to do there? I love going to festivals and not spending the entire time running between the music stages - I'm about the atmosphere and other activities too!

We have decided to go this, sure its not the most amazing line up ever, but as has been previosuly posted the sunday line up is great, and there is enough in the Saturday to get me through I recon.... Florence and the Machine, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ash... In fact I quite like it when Headliners aren't all that strong It give you chance to discover things you may not have done before like in the dance stages and stuff...

Except nothing on at the same time as the headliners: they close the other stages so nothing clashes, like at wireless/Hyde Park calling.

Personally, I can't wait. Was abit upset that I wasn't going to any of the biggies this year (made a decision not to after I'd had enough of paying excrutiating ticket prices so that the corporates could just dish them out free to their mates). I went to the first IOW festival when it was revived and I am hoping to find the same chilled, friendly, atmosphere here. A change is as good as a rest!

If i lived a bit closer, i'd definitely go to this festival. I think its got a great varied line-up.
On the Saturday i'd be excited about Etienne De Crecy, White Denim, Florence & The Machine and Datarock.
On the Sunday, i think its got a line-up to rival most festivals this summer. But then i used to be a huge paul weller fan. Editors are good live, as are Doves. And 2manyDJs are great fun.
I think its a winner, if it gets cancelled its a real shame because it IS offering something that other festivals aren't.
Good Luck!

What is it offering that others aren't as a matter of interest ? The Fratellis ?

I for one hope this festival doesn't get cancelled.... I am not going this year, but am getting sick of bigger, corporate festivals and have pencilled this in as one of my replacements (based on last years and this years line-ups).
Mixed opinions on this thread - but the general feedback is this is a Festival worth backing.
I remember Latitude being in the same position in the earlier years but has now nailed it.

Bloodflowerbill, on Jun 19 2009, 03:12 PM, said:Here’s the basics; It’s called Hop Farm, it’s in Kent and it’s on the 4th and 5th of July. More importantly it could quite easily be the best festival you don’t yet know about. For £125 including camping the lineup is full of diverse, exciting new talent, established icons of British music and is one of the few festivals offering a commercial-free atmosphere.

i don't understand all this bollocks about it being different and commercial-free. i went for the neil young day last year (poor line up except him, my morning jacket and primal scream). apart from the one stage (was there a second one?), there was........ ter dar....... a load of over priced food stalls and a load of over priced beer tents, yes, just like any other festival. it didn't stand out as an anticommercial in any way at all.
having said that, i'll be looking out for cheap sunday tickets as i don't know anyone going to this festival at all (shame joy formidable are saturday, they are AWESOME).
