you'll never get away with it, back to work and not banging on about how great it was, plus the tan will be a dead giveaway

I'm a little worried about calling in sick now! i have to ring in every day unless i have a doctors cert. i know it's a terrible thing to do but i know i wouldn't get the time off as others have been turned down for various things.

i was thinking of saying i got a bad back and maybe getting my bro to call in for me sighting that I'm so off it with the pain killers that I'm sleeping all the time.

does that sound a good enough excuse?

Mild heatstroke, you'll be able to get away with having the tan then as well.

That sounds quite believable, good luck!

Back ache doesn't sound too bad an excuse. At the end of the day, whenever you call in sick whether you're ill or not everyone always assumes it's a sickie, no point worrying about it

TBH if one of my team's relatives called in to say they had a bad back and were asleep all the time, I'd tell the relative to tell the ill person to call in when they woke up...

However, if the team member called in and said they had flu-like symptoms I would scream at them down the phone to KEEP THE HELL AWAY UNTIL YOU ARE BETTER!!!

Bad backs are a good one - you can get a Drs note soooo easilly and you could say that you were given tablets that knock you out as the pain is so bad.  A collegue was off a while a go with a bad back and when they tried to ring in sick the receptionist thought it was a prank calll becuase the person made no sense

i dont really want to go to the docs and get a sick note, i'd feel an even bigger fraud!!

i have to self cert for the first 5 days, i work Mon - Fri, I'll be off Thur, Fri and the following monday if i end up taking the Wed as our travel arrangements aren't finalised will i need a docs cert? it would be 6 days in total or does it only count as work days? i.e thur, fri and mon = 3 days?

mmm...not sure on that one.  My work you can self cert for the first 7 days which can include days off (our business is open 7 days per week and depending on rota you could potentially be at work for more than 7 days in a row).  I think it would be down to your company policy - do you have a staff handbook with that in?

- In terms of SSP the waiting days would be Thursday, Friday and Monday then you get SSP from the Wednesday.  Company sick pay (the top up from SSP) would depend on your company rules.

You self cert for the first 7 days (work or off), so no. Don't go dragging your GP into this fraudulent activity though!

my son is having tonsillitis to get time off from his school.

I just said to my kids' headteacher, 'please can they have two days holiday to go to Glastonbury' and he signed them off!
It might stretch to three day sthough.

They do have pretty much 100 percent attendance otherwise.

no worries dr billy, i have no intention of dragging my doc into this, i just remembered that a girl at work was told to bring a sick note off of the doc after the 5th day off work, that was a few months back, i seem to remember a manager (or the likes) being asked.

I found the hand book and it states up to 7 days of sickness, self cert. Docs medical certy on the 8th day!
think i'll go along with what the handbook says

Yup the book is right, anything more than this is the private and incur a charge, I normally send patients who are forced to do this to go and ask their boss how much the are willing to pay, and to provide a job description to me, which puts most off.
