my daughter is going to Sonar - she is 17 - what sort of checks do they make on age for the night time event??

I'd say that unless your daughter looks much younger than eighteen she wouldn't have a problem, from experience they only check bags and tickets.  However you need your passport to collect the tickets so it is possible that somebody might question her there on balance though I wouldn't worry really.
