Surely, it is about having the choice that is the point here...? Its the best place in the world to be...Enjoy it how you want!!

Well said. This is probably the most moronic thread I've seen on this forum.

Laughable how someone wanting to spend £100 to not lug/put up a tent, have a shower (god forbid you should want to be clean) and not queue for ages is a big deal.

One things it's not about:

1. Avoiding other festival goers. For 16 hours a day we'll be mixing with everyone else.

Well, at the risk of getting forum eggs hurled at my face, my dad is staying in this campsite.

He's been to the past four Glastos. This year he thought that I wasn't going (hence wouldn't be there to help carry his stuff!) and he booked up for the closer, easier option. His back is crocked and if it's a choice between hauling bags across mud-strewn fields or paying a little more to park near his tent, then he knew which way he was going.

Just saying that it's not all necessarily Tories and rich kids  ;)

Having said that, I think he's a bit uneasy about it - being as he's supposedly a Leftie and all!

I'm a card carrying leftie, doesn't mean I don't want a shower :-)

Inverted snobbery is so boring.

Dont know if anyone is still reading this thread seeing as this years been and gone now.

I have enjoyed Glastonbury for many years but have had some serious issues lately with my back and am awaiting a 3rd operation later this year, so i couldnt go this year. In 2007, because of my probs we hired a campervan as i couldnt really move to well and wanted somewhere i could lay down, however there was 2 major faults with this, firstly the price, words cant describe how much the damn thing cost, and second, the hill leading to the camper fields was an absolute killer at the start and end of every day so 2007 was not a good year for me at Glastonbury. Though i can confirm that the onsite hospital is fantastic if you ever need it!

Next year, 2010, we want to hopefully return to Glastonbury but i will be unable to lug any camping equipment to the site so the ###### Tent Village is an obvious choice for me, yes it means paying more but does that mean i am now incapable of enjoying the spirit of Glastonbury as i will be unable to carry and put up my own tent? I dont understand how you can call me a snob and 'rich folk' for needing surgery so i can walk again? You people just dont think beyond your own bubble world and realise that maybe there are the hardcore festival goers that might no longer (through no fault of their own) be able to carry gear long distances, but are still capable of going to the festival itself. And before you categorise me as being disabled or some old git as well, im only 30 and the problems ive got can happen to you! It might be you next year defending your right to go to Glastonbury Fetsival from some half wit d**khead that thinks you shouldnt go because you cant lift anymore!

Its the people with attitudes like yours that destry the 'spirit' of Glastonbury. All you've done is talk about the 'money' aspects of the tent village, not the humanity of letting everyone enjoy themselves and have a good time. If anyone needs to hang up the boots, its you guys!

Well said.  I can't see this option as being any different to using a camper van.  May opt for one or the other next year. Main reason is to avoid too much carrying.  I take 3 kids (& their stuff) and a friend who usually camps with us has back problems / can't carry without causing herself damage. In both 2007 and 2008 she ended up having to take time off work post festival.   As she's freelance, this is v expensive.  A guaranteed camping spot & no carrying would make a vast difference.  I'm also freelance. Arriving on Thursday with a guaranteed camping spot would let me travel after the Wednesday rush (and work/get paid Wednesday) and leave immediately after the Sunday headliner without having to waste time taking down a tent & taking it back to the car.  Yes it is lovely spending 5 days at the festival, but this year I spent all of Wednesday &  all of Monday travelling.  On the way in, the last 10 miles took 5 hours plus. Wasn't fun putting up a family sized tent @ midnight with exhausted children.

i totally agree with everything you have said, you never do know what circumstances you yourself may endup in..and for you it makes perfect sense to use them, shame about the price (i assume they're super costly) but if i had to either use this campsite or not go..I know what i would do

I think a lot of people are commenting on the fact that there are people these days who will moan about the slightest bit of mud, rain, putting a tent up etc, and would rather pay through lazyness/snobbyness for someone else to do it all
