I have been to V festival, but only at Staffs. We live in London so Chelmsford is nearest. My dilemna is whether to go to Chelmsford as it tends to get better weather/less rain, or go to Staffs as a lot of people on the forum think its got a better atmosphere.

I live 30 mins from Weston Park so obviously go there and have never seen for myself what the difference is. However, I remember having a random chat last year with a bloke who was in a party from London and when I asked him why Staffs and not Chelms he said that they had been to Chelms 4 years ago and it had been too chavvy so they had come to Staffs since then.
This was his view and not mine. Staffs seems to have its own chav problem in recent years but he said it wasn't anywhere near as bad as Chelms.

I completely agree.
Staffs is 100% better than chelmsford. I live in Hertfordshire and have been to both.
We found chelmsford to be really tight on sneeking beers into the arena, the people are really chavvy and the camp sites are a mission.
Staffs all the way!

having been to both i would personally go for Stafford. Chelmsford's site IMO is better laid out organisation wise but is full of London luvvies who only go to say " i went to V fest", they don't atually have a clue about any of the bands playing. Too many posh indie kids who go round with a bad small under their noses all weekend( that was my experience the couple of times i went to Chelmsford anyway!)
Stafford crowds are genrally excellent, much better atmosphere. even when the weather is shite(last year especially) people just get on with it and have fun! Just a shame the shambles organisation of it all last year let it down slightly! Site has been so much harder to get in and out of since they changed the entrances and exits a few years back! Thats all said i would choose Stafford over Chelmsford every time!

If anything I have found that the adverse weather makes the atmosphere so much better - it may be that I'm just getting used to the rain though! V 07 was 1 day sodden, 1 day sunny. V 08 & 09 were total washouts give or take a couple of hours but there was definitely a bit of dunkirk spirit about the place! Staffs is always good.....

i remembe one year maybe 2006 or 2005 i can't remember which now when it was gloriously sunny and i got sunburnt, its a shocker to imagine that after the last couple of years weather wise we have had!
I have only ever been to stafford as its bout 25mins down the motorway from me but from people i know who have been to both, they say the atmosphere is better at stafford as people say chelms is full of posers and young girls/guys who just go there to pose and say they have been to v and also to celeb spot! as alot more celebs go to chelms than staffs!
I say staffs all the way!

There is nothing wrong with a bit of mud!
Anyway, it's far more comfortable in a tent when u don't feel like Sunday's Roast of the Day!!

From reading other posts, it sounds like Chelmsford had a bit of a nightmare with accoustics last year. No such problems at Weston park that I can remember.

From what ive heard over the past few years of going to V staffs is by far the more chilled out atmospheric festival compared to chelmsford. Chelmsford appears to full of chavs, and meh who minds a bit of raint he last time i saw a whole sunny weekend at v was V 2004!!!!!!!

2005 was scorching!!!! I only live 10 minutes away in Telford so its Weston Weston Weston all the way for m! The only diff is that Chelmsford don't have an indie disco on Friday cos it's in site is close to the town centre!

No, that can't possibly be right, coz Tom Meighan (Kasabian) said Chelmsford were much better than the year before
These guys sure love to play up to the crowd don't they...
I've been to Chelms four previous years, but always heard on here that Staffs was better, finally gonna check it out this year. better not bloody rain though.

I love the fact that you felt the need to tell us who Mathew Belamy is
. Otherwise we may have got him mixed up with David Bellamy and would all be scratching our heads wondering how drunk we had been to have missed that tree hugging bearded freak on the sunday night
Any way Mathew Bellamy also believes in Flying Saucers so not shore how much faith we should put in him.
In this case he was correct though
