I just hope it's not a female Doctor. I think they've really hammed this up though which I'm a bit disappointed about - airing a special show just to announce who it is?! Sounds OTT to me.

For those of you who don't know, the middle guy here is Paterson Joseph.

He had a bit part in the season 1 finale as the guy Rose plays The Weakest Link against.

It wouldn't be the first time an actor played a part in the show before becoming the Doctor - Colin Baker's Commander Maxil shot Peter Davison's Doctor in the 1983 adventure The Arc Of Infinity. He got the main role a year later.

So there you go. I shall retire to my nerd's corner whilst you all ponder on that one.

Ejiofor is way to big to play Dr Who I'd have thoguht, he's all but Hollywood A-list isn't he??

Chiwetel Ejiofor's acting in Serenity was excellent. Very cool detachment.

Also, if this is the 11th Dr how are they going to get round the 10 regenerations rule?????

Oh yeah forgot, Dr Who is now for the unintelligent audience. Point a sonic screwdriver at it and it opens or spontaneously works and then dig up the same old bad guys once a season.

It is and has never been Dr Who, it is a commercialised version aimed at a modern audience which has a 60min attention span, which can not cope with following a storyline over a period of weeks. Those types of programmes are on the other BBC channels for intelligent people.
