shugie
Just got an email from the festival office. Tickets going on sale now, which is a lot earlier than last year. Worked out that to take our family will cost £450 in 2009. Now that middle sprog is five, no chance of sneaking her in as under five, she's rather too tall. I think they were a bit suspicious last year, and all they would have to do is ask her the name of her school. Got to say that is an awful lot. I'm inclined to leave any purchases until the New Year, and if it's sold out by then, we will go without.
marooned
How do Shugie - yes just got same e-mail and checked on their official site to see if my eyes had deceived me. £177 for 5-day ticket - only me and Mrs Marooned, but that's £354 (plus booking fees no doubt) and getting there (no mean feat starting from the Island) - PLUS food and drink. Blimey, this Festival lark's getting pricey BTW lost your mobile no...........
gratedenini
Nobody would say that Larmer Tree doesn`t hold the most special of places in our hearts... have loved (nearly) every minute we`ve spent there.. the wedding, every anniversary--- The Boy Larmer etc etc--- but I think the pricing of the tickets is becoming ridiculous. Somebody, somewhere is taking the piss. Without a Festival Forum to voice any opinion the xenophobic nature LT seems to be travelling down is beginning to leave a sickly taste in our mouths. With each self-centred Newsletter that arrives the phrase "SOLD -OUT" always manifests itself somewhere within --and thereby lies the tale afaic. They are (at the moment) invincible and can do no wrong... the affluent catchment area will always see the cardigans over the shoulder brigade swell the ranks for Jools on the Wed... and I must admit--if it was my business-- I`d do what they are doing and just take the piss-- if people will pay the money--I`d sell the tickets. Not many fests sell out --but there again not many only have a capacity of 4-5000. BUT --- BUT --- will this (awful phrase) credit crunch begin to bite? Personally -- I`d love for Larmer not to sell out--but I think we`d still be told it actually has! I can`t class LT as a value festival and feel fortunate that we are in a position to be able to afford to go--never mind what it costs an exiled Jock and his knitting-wifey to get there from IOW--its costs us more than a foreign sojourn to get us 5 down from the FROZEN North. We`ve now had to finally admit defeat about Jordans age... he`ll be 10 next year ..and we got too many looks this year when we claimed he had an over active thyroid causing him to grow abnormally. Anyway-- we`ll still go.... but a little bit of the magic has eroded away..and esp with the forum being pulled because someones ego wasn`t being tickled in the manner in which he was wanting. As Peter Kay said.... "How can you respect a man who wears a tenko hat?" Nuff Said.

Medina
Not for me to comment on ticket prices set by other festival organisers... but I suspect that festival-goers are going to be much more careful about how they spend their cash next year. In my view Larmer Tree is a great festival but any festival perceived to be charging too much for tickets may well find that even the most loyal of audiences can suddenly decide to go elsewhere. We shall see.
marooned
In my view Larmer Tree is a great festival but any festival perceived to be charging too much for tickets may well find that even the most loyal of audiences can suddenly decide to go elsewhere. =========================================== ...and THAT, as Denis so nicely put it, is PRECISELY why he ditched the much missed Larmer Tree Forum. Imagine all those becardiganned newbies from Verwood's bustling estates going on-line to find his 'regulars' moaning about ticket pricing. Much better to push the SELL OUT notice endlessly! No wonder one of the things mentioned in the job description of his recent vacancies was to keep a positive presence on Festival Forums like these!!! I think we'll be able to spot them when they pick up on this thread......... Despite all the moaning, I've no doubt Credit Card Bill will stomp up again for 'Musical Mothercare' and me and Mrs.Marooned will lap up another helping of Dreadzone, Michael Wookey, Miss Rusby etc.etc. Can't be denied that Tenko does serve up a majorly good line-up - can't either be denied that the 'magic', whatever that was or is, is fading................................. gratedenini
I fully agree with the other comments who agree with me!!! Trouble is-- theres only a handful--if that--of us detractors.. same as on the LT forum. What bugs me is that although I`m always a bit "chewy" like--I`m also one of the most loyal and "loving" towards the festivals we go to. Theres nowt worse than folks who just moan and moan..and there were always plenty on that forum---and i shot em down where necessary... I think i was always trying to see it from both sides--but without doubt there were some areas where Larmer could be improved--and as such--the core of that forum put forward pleenty of ideas. EG... Dress Up Saturday as they now call it-- well bollocks... that came from the forum discussing it--and I actually think it wasme who 1st mentioned people systematically getting dressed up--as we have always done.... the Oxfam shop has gone through the roof cos of us! But--with the slightest bit of criticism towards Tenko and his Beloved --- posts were pulled (some of mine quite rightly so tbh cos sometimes i did go too far)... and the reason given at the end---- a swathe of Russian Porn spam.... bollocks. The Golden Goose never lives forever... and ultimately if you dont look after (and listen) to your core customers-- you will fail. Butonce again--its got to be said--- a couple of moaners on here hardly constitutes a collapsing Larmer audience does it. Because i feel so much for Larmer--- it upsets me..and thats my personal dilema. We`ll still go to all the same fests we want to (assuming the credit crunch doesn`t close our business!) but it will be very interesting to see how things pan out next year. den
marooned
On a POSITIVE note - Thursday's line-up has the mighty Dreadzone, with the Headliner 'still to be announced'. Now who, in Larmer Tree terms, can out-gun the mighty Dreadz - may I predict the magical return of The Afro Celts. Now the cost don't seem so bad!!! marooned
...well said mate - and I hope you're NOT alone in turning your back on it. I won't, despite the moaning, it's still our favourite of the year (only missed two, I think) - but 'tenko' could take a lesson from EOTR Festival. Same venue, much better use of the space and NOT 'musical mothercare'......
marooned
....see they've just added Rich Hall as Otis Lee Crenshaw on Thursday Night. Last time (was it 2 or 3 years ago), that guy was seriously funny. Probably in the ARC again - let's hope he doesn't clash with Dreadzone or the Thursday headliner!!! Sod's Law innit........ marooned
....I see they've dropped the 'credit crunch' reference from their home page - clearly SOMEONE in their office keeps an eye on this forum - even if they're too chicken to have their own!! Artist list growing by the week now - lots going on - but, I've still only heard of 8 or 9 - alaways turns out well though!

madsue
And Richard Thompson for Thursday night!!! How I would love to attend this year as well. I adored it at Larmer Tree last year, and I seem to recall I spent around 170 squid for my ticket?

madsue
Unfortunately yes - I like that phrase - fiscal re-alignment !!! No festivals at all for me this year I'm afraid. Edited February 22, 2009 by madsue
shugie
Having been fiscally realigned, I've opted for Wychwood, with the faint possibility of a solo trip to Larmer Tree for Thursday night only, subject to negotiation with the domestic controller. Noticeable that tickets have been on sale for some time, and nothing has as yet sold out.
seantizz
For four or five years, Larmer Tree was a brilliant festival for me and my young son, Olly, to head off to.. We both had some wonderful times there; everyone was so friendly and Olly still talks about the day that he held a young girls hand, only to realise that he'll never see her again!! But things have had to change. Olly's now 12. I can't afford tickets for the both of us, especially when there are festivals out there who have entrance for under 13's free. It'll always hold a great place in our hearts and I'm not saying that we'll never go back again but that rush to get Larmer Tree tickets seems to have passed for me (and many others as they've not sold out yet!!) marooned
Having looked behind all the cushions, underneath the chairs and beds, under all the car and van seats and round the gearstick shrouds, I've finally done it - GOT THE DOSH TOGETHER FOR 2 x 5-DAY TICKETS! Loads left apparently - looks like Young James will be getting a fiscally bloody nose this term! £177 each PLUS add-ons, serves the peacock fiddler right I hear you say. Still, we just HAD to go, I think this is our No16 or 17! Sorry to hear that you chose Wychwood Shugie - the very one I dropped - scared of buying a pint eh? Anyone seen that Denini chap - dropped off the edge of the world...........
