The Cribs would be a brilliant headliner. Absoloutely brilliant live band, now Johnny Marr is their new guitarist they may start to have a much wider appeal. Met them the other day and all of them were so lovely :D

Potential headliners:

The Cribs

Last Shadow Puppets

Justice

Belle & Sebastian (again :D)

Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band

British Sea Power

Fun Lovin Criminals

other bands:

Those Dancing Days

Edwyn Collins

The Duke Spirit

M.I.A

Lovvers

The Death Set

Adam Green

Crystal Castles

Where did you get that from? That's ridiculous. I didn't call anyone fake. I'd just like to see some of the Jamaican artists that originated ska and reggae while they're still around, and I'd like to see some pure ska and reggae rather than ska-jazz, ska-punk, reggae-rock, or whatever. Jeez.

Sorry, but that's nonsense. Ska originated in Jamaica among those musicians, and those musicians wrote and performed many of the classic ska tracks that have been covered so often since. They were influenced by earlier music but came up with something new and fresh. As did the 2-tone era bands. El Pussycat, by their own admission perform "in the famous Jamaican dance hall style of the 50's & 60's" (from their website). Nothing wrong with that, but not as interesting to me as the original musicians. If you feel differently that's up to you, it's (supposedly) a free country.

yeah if we could ever have afforded it (hello you mystery sponsors.....hello, if you fancy it?). i'd quite like to have EMF play the fringe. they get richard marsh from bentley rythym ace to replace the late zac foley. but sadly, im sure any band with ian dench in doesnt come that cheap (since his day job is songwriting for some considerable us stars these days).

There is nothing nonsense about it. How new is something that can be traced back in a direct lineage through all forms of popular music that preceded it and further into classical music? It wasn't new and it wasn't original, though it may have freshened things up.

It isn't a free country by any means though this is a forum where views can be and are freely expressed, which is exactly what Im doing. My point isn't about what you find interesting or would like to see next year - that really is entirely up to you. My issue is with the derogatory way you refer to stuff you find less interesting - and your original description of El Pussycat was both dismissive and derogatory. By the fact that El Pussycat play in the dance hall style of the 50's and 60's, how were the artists of the 60's in any way original? The fact that they were recreating stuff of the previous decade clearly highlights that as nonsense

i once saw claire from steps shopping in st martins square in leicester. it's fair to say she was much much thinner then she is now.

i've been to see steps. i also have been to see take that twice.

i'm not embarrassed..........

There's the relevant bit from the original post. Who were you referring to if not El Pussycat? Because i don't recall any other Ska last year and this year's were from the same outfit. I haven't twisted any of your words, just quoted them back at you. My underlying issue is music snobbery and my complete aversion to it. And if the topic is what you'd like to see next year, you have no need to comment on what has gone previously, that's all.
