  1. Everyone knows how much I adore the festival, but losing Williams Green still really hurts. There was and is no other venue that had/has that identity and curated line-up. It was like a small version of the 'New Bands Tent' that JPT was once and for many of us was a key part of our daily line-up schedule. Yes, the big bookings, especially on Thursday with so much less on around the site, became untenable. Fine. Stop booking those bands. But, that combination of upcoming bands and also daytime sets by more established artists who were playing elsewhere during the weekend (Everything Everything, Courtney Barnett etc) was unique to Glastonbury, and its passing is one small step towards the Farm feeling more like 'all the other festivals'. And that's a huge shame. With the loss of The Rabbit Hole, the only vaguely comparable daytime venue (though I do understand the reasons for its end), that type of experience at Glastonbury has taken another huge hit for those of us less interested in chart popular stuff and nostalgia acts. I truly hope they knock it out of The Park with a replacement for the ol' Hole. Ben
  2. Love our little community in here, team. Ben x
  3. Firm pencil in the schedule already. Yup. Ben
  4. I'm excited about Alvvays! My No.1 must see at present. Three great albums and they were fab last time in Woodsies. Will be good to see them again in a longer, higher up slot. Ben
  5. Now now, ya mardy bugger! I'll admit not to having listened to any of theirs beyond album 2 (which was 'ok'), but that debut is a banger! Come at me. Ben
  6. Absolutely. Derided by many in a 'Coldplay way' more for what they seemed to become. I saw them at a festival in between albums 1 and 2 and they were pretty great. Tom Chaplin is a properly good singer and the first record is packed full of songs perfect for a euphoric hour in the afternoon sun on El Pointo. Ben
  7. Edgy might not have been the best adjective, but Air would have been a really interesting booking, and the Bunnymen, for me, still retain 'proper band with something to say' status, despite their vintage. I'd have loved to have seen them. Ben
  8. Nah, the Beautiful People were in Woodies having an amazing time watching Phoenix. It was half full and the atmosphere was fantastic! Ben
  9. I always await the poster knowing that there won't be that much that is for me outside of The Park and Woodsies. But, this year, I probably have more on this poster than many other years! I'm as excited as ever and, more importantly, like a child on Christmas Eve in anticipation of the heady mayhem of the area drops. Truly my favourite time of the year! Ben
  10. Oh I dunno...I feel they nailed it in 2016 for James Blake on the Saturday night. Spine-tingling clarity and wonderful balance. I wasn't even a particular fan, but that set, projected in that audio quality blew me away. See also: Bicep 2022. Yet another crystal-clear production from the Holts' sound engineers. Ben
  11. It's swings and roundabouts, I think. There is no question that Glastonbury is feeling the pinch, like all festivals. They have always had a mix of amazing and more conventional production values - remember that Boomtown set out to create a large-scale Lost Vagueness, and their artist roster has always reflected how they choose to allocate funds in their budget. And more power to them for sticking to the event they want. For me, that first Boomtown line-up post COVID was the best example of how they sacrifice booking budget for production budget. For me, I would rather have slightly less spectacular and a slightly 'stronger' artist roster. So, The Levels was just fine for me. And, the sound on Lonely Hearts was unbelievably good. Say what you like about the incredible builds at Boomtown, when I went, the sound on the very biggest structures was average at best. All hail the rebirth of Genosys! Ben
  12. I think that Justice set was an example of perfect place and time. Closing West Holts in the year when the sound quality for that stage went stratospheric (still my favourite of the main stages by far, when they get it spot on), everyone was rejuvenated at the end of five days and nights full gas, with a euphoric dance set. The, mostly white, light show was spectacular (only bettered for me by Bicep in 2022) and everyone was totally up for it. How much of any live dance set like this is genuinely being played/manipulated live by the artists is open to debate, but it was amazing. I may well go and see them again this year, but I'm slightly put off by the idea of trying to recreate something that we've already had 'exactly the same' - same day, stage and slot - not that many years ago. However, looking at my Sunday headliner options (in fact, all my headliner options for Fri-Sun 😄), I will more than likely be with a gang of friends dancing to Justice. Will be very interested to see what the new record is like in a couple of weeks. Ben
  13. I'd love to see that set. Unashamedly trancey and euphoric. BUT...what's with the Americans?? Is anyone actually dancing? When the spider cam sweeps over them they're kind of just standing there. Or holding their phones aloft. Or all too obviously waving their 'techno fan'!! Would be great to be in position A, going full gas and them all be "Woah, dude! You ok, man?" 😂 Ben
  14. It was fine at Pangea, with lots of room to dance right under the body of the crane. In fact, I've always found it good at Arcadia if you make your way right into the middle. The only issue was having to wait for Jamie Jones to finish each of his selections 😆. Charlotte de Witte was pretty decent too. Ben
  15. Agreed. I kind of feel that Coxy 'owes' me a proper set - last time b2b with Jamie Jones was pretty much a case of enjoying alternate tracks! If he does play, and the Arcadia crew have pulled something special out of the bag with the Sea King, that could be pretty special. Ben
  16. Edit - especially if they programmed him at a sensible time - like the 2230h slot on Arcadia that has had big names, but on The Levels? I could be talking absolute bollocks, of course. Ben
  17. Is he too big for The Levels, though? He's obviously still huge in dance/dance festival circles, but do the majority of your average Fred Again, Four Tet, Peggy Gou Insta following punters know him well enough at a place like Glastonbury? Ben
  18. Is that not part of The Levels? Ben
  19. B2B that with The Girl With The Sun In Her Head and oooft! Ben
  20. One of the (many, many) reasons my night at FOLD in Feb was so fantastic. Stickers on phone cameras and everyone just there for the music. Wish it was like that everywhere in the U.K. Ben
  21. I can't tell you how utterly depressing I find this picture! For me this is just about the antithesis of everything I want when I go out dancing 🤪. Ben
  22. That's got Truth Stage written all over it for one set, at least. Ben
  23. Yeah, this - he was great for a sunset set on West Holts. I'm presuming this appearance has to be 'just' a DJ set or he'd be listed on one of the five main stages on the poster. I have no idea what his DJ sets are like 🤪. Ben
