Wednesday night, closing time at the Bimble Inn and the DJ was playing old funk and soul. Memories are a wee bit hazy but I'm 99% sure it was September by EWF that lures us onto the dancefloor.

Would struggle to contain my rage if I was settling into watching an evening of the Neilster and a grunge man came out bellowing about boys named Jeremy and the colour black.

Did anyone even go to see the Mary Chain this year?

There's two separate things here though. 1) Crowd gridlocks, crushes and surges are unsafe and should be avoided. 2) Glastonbury 2022 was worse for this than previous years I don't think anyone would dispute point 1), but it's point 2) that's more contentious. I've been in bad crowd situations in previous years - some years you get caught up in them and sometimes you avoid them completely.

Astroworld? Macca's show was stopped immediately when someone collapsed in the crowd. It's night and day in terms of response.

I was in the Diana Ross pit and as it finished as one everyone seemed to be heading to The Park to see Jack White.

We were up there on Saturday night and it was in place then.

Yup. No more secrets or surprises. Remove the element of mystery and discovery entirely.

Lucky escape, then, given the phoned in, couldn't be arsed nature of the shows.

Every act playing on a stage and billing exactly suited to their size just further robs the festival of magic as you lose the opportunity to see bigger bands on the small stages.

I'm not the world's biggest fan of Victoria Coren Mitchell, but I did laugh when she absolutely destroyed this mf. So fair play to the guy for still having the balls to surface into public view.

My brother went with some NY newbies and he said that Goin' Home lasted about half an hour and absolutely banjaxed the vibe of the gig cos absolutely no c**t knew it.

There's no doubt that the photos of the Park Hill on the Wednesday look mobbed. However, we were in the SE Corner most of Wednesday night and it was quiet as fuck. Glasto Latino, Platform 23, Rocket Lounge etc all with music on but lots of space for dancing. So still feels like a crowd trends thing.

A couple of the folk making the most noise weren't at the festival this year.

With the best will in the world, they're an infamously iffy live outfit.
