  1. Last year they went on sale on February 14, for 129 Euros, I think. Definitely post here if you get word!
  2. When we've come around to hoping for Sam Smith and Kings of Leon, it's a rough lineup. Of course, neither would be a main headliner, so that's something. And no, I don't think there's anything wrong with those choices as subheadliners... just following this forum for the past month, it's an unexpected shift.
  3. Yeah, they're definitely not coming for two festivals and then going home. I still think they're playing Friday, but we shall see. Also, the two dates they announced were BOTH on the leaked list of European tour dates.... as well as Rock Werchter. We shall see.
  4. I see this response a lot in this forum. Does presence at Pukkelpop make Werchter more or less likely? I never know what the intent of the poster is.
  5. Unless you look at the posters for 2022 and 2018...
  6. I don't think they're a band that lives for the ego of the headline or co-headline marquee. I think this makes the initial claim that they were playing July 5 much, much more likely. Maneskin is the headliner currently, and they're just simply not that strong for most concertgoers. A Maneskin/Pearl Jam brings in young and old and gives the entire festival more heft. I remain of the opinion that they're waiting to release their Euro touring schedule in one press release, since their name is NOWHERE and they're definitely playing in Europe.
  7. We can glean that Thursday will just be a Grateful Dead cover band jamming for 12 hours on one stage and 311 playing back to back 41 song sets on the other. It's gonna be Pearl Jam, the question is who is playing ahead of them? The Smile into Pearl Jam? Who knows.
  8. They were in my Mad Cool wishlist, until they made us stand around till 4:30am before they cancelled the show. From backstage. With a full tent of fans. Now I'm never getting excited about them again.
  9. They were excellent before Nick Cave in 2022. They can bring Nick and Placebo both, do the show again! 🙂
  10. My entire Werchter crew got into Glasto, I'm on my own in Belgium. Better start with Pearl Jam and end with the Foos at least!
  11. I think perhaps you're limiting your worldview WAY too much if that's what you're considering, but even then, you're wildly, outrageously off if you think these bands achieved that status in the last two years.
  12. Huh? Arctic Monkeys became a stadium act and headliner on the basis of AM, which came out a decade ago, spawned six radio releases, won a ton of awards and went platinum. In fact, they headlined their night at Werchter five years ago... and so did The Killers. Who have been headlining festivals since long before then. In face, The Killers were a festival headliner and stadium act in 2013, when Arctic Monkeys made it big with AM.
  13. Yeah, I'm not sure how Lenny fits in that group, though. The others... no.
  14. The only downside of Dua is spending the money and slot on her instead of someone others might have personally wanted. Her music is pretty engaging, it doesn't sound like someone moaning over an EDM track like a lot of pop music does, she's hot (as in very popular, she has lots of hits and is in several big films as well now) and also hot (as in everybody likes to look at her while she's singing, or acting, or waiting for a bus), and she has an interest in putting on a show that will convert us rock dorks into huge fans. In the grand scheme of things, as an American rock and roll person, if we still get PJ on Thursday and another subheadliner on the Maneskin/Dua days that engage the rock nature of the festival, I'll be super happy. Maneskin was entertaining in 2022, Dua was the same at Mad Cool in 2018. We can have nice things. Just, Rock Werchter, stay away from mush-mouther Lil Wayne rapper types if you can. It's really tough to relate to that. Everybody likes a Rihanna or Pink when they walk onto the stage, though, it's just balancing out losing that million dollars that could have been Radiohead instead.
  15. Perhaps, but they co-headlined a day at Mad Cool in 2018 with Queens of the Stone Age... and they haven't gotten any bigger, while Queens did. It's not saying they're chopped liver to co-headline a day at Rock Werchter, but they're not selling the tickets that Pearl Jam, Foos, or Dua might. I still love them, but they don't really come close to selling out basketball stadiums (14k-18k tickets usually) in the USA, for instance. And neither would Maneskin, while... PJ/Foos can stage shows with 3x that attendance with little trouble. Or maybe I'm just hoping! I'll throw Nine Inch Nails in the mix, since I'm dreaming, they played in the tent in 2018 and absolutely crushed. I don't think they'll be touring, though.
  16. Good point! Maybe a QotSA or The Smile or Blur or Depeche Mode type... something that doesn't necessarily sell a ton of tickets but generally everybody likes and respects?
  17. Did you listen to the entire songs? I can't imagine not recognizing "Don't Start Now" or "Levitating", they've been all over popular advertising and social media. If you installed TikTok anything for about two years you knew these songs instantly. 😆 As I recommended earlier in the thread, her episode of "Song Exploder" on Netflix is excellent. The Killers also have one, that's very funny because they clearly film the band members in different time/location, only the singer and drummer from The Killers remain with the band. Also, Dua had the main song from the Barbie movie, which... You know, a lot of people saw. She was in the movie, too. She's huge currently and a very good addition to the lineup, I think she played before Nine Inch Nails at Mad Cool and didn't feel out of place at all around all those rock bands.
  18. Strong recommend you watch Dua's episode of "Song Exploder" to learn more about her before assuming too much. Just because she's attractive doesn't mean she lacks dedication to her craft. I suppose there was a time when people thought Robert Plant and Eddie Vedder were just good looking guys, too.
  19. Reading this forum, it seems that The National are the second coming of Led Zeppelin and we might as well not bother at all. I like The National. It's not a worldwide panic that they booked someplace else. That money will go to some other compelling sub-headliner, like The Smile for instance.
  20. I've only seen Pulp once, but it was a programming coup at Coachella, they booked Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Thom Yorke, and Gorillaz I think, what a great day for fans of English music.
  21. Can anyone comment on the experience at Hellfest? I've generally gone to Rock Werchter, but would like to spend a little more time in France than Belgium next year. If you've been to both festivals (camping especially) that would be helpful information, but really any wisdom is appreciated.
  22. Twas a misclick, intended as an upvote! My preference is Pulp + Dua Lipa on stage together, let's get the "Common People" update for 2024!
  23. Exciting idea. They need a really big name if there aren't a lot of options this summer. I also wondered about Roger Waters, but I don't know if he's been to Belgium recently. Maybe not with the current powder keg in Israel...
  24. Bad Bunny is an enormous artist in some cultures and age groups. He even acted in a fairly major role with Brad Pitt in that "Bullet Train" movie recently, and the Bunny fans were very excited. But his music is completely irrelevant to most Werchter fans, and the money he would command is enormous, such that it would remove one of the biggest rock headliners. No thank you. My measuring stick for how annoyed I am by a headliner choice is if it prevented an act I really would have paid $100 to see alone... that's what your headliners should be. Not "Oh, okay, I guess I'll see them", but "Wow, I would have paid $100, it's like getting the rest of the festival day for free!"
