  1. Bands for 2017

I must be too old and uneducated to understand this modern boutique festival type thing. I think I'm going to leave this discussion before I get accused of voting for Brexit.
  2. Bands for 2017

I'm still going and with an open mind. I may come away dissapointed as I'm not the type of music fan that thinks everything is awesome and brilliant even when it's just a bit rubbish. Anyway, what's wrong with Kasabian? If there good enough for Jules!
  3. Bands for 2017

I'm definitely in the wrong boozer if it's full of bearded men drinking gin and cucumber whilst listening to Future Islands on the jukebox.
  4. Bands for 2017

I have to admit that the EOTR festival ticket was a mistake on my part, especially after the line-up was announced. I was slightly concerned when the only band that I had heard of was the Jesus and Mary Chain! Just Caught a live session on 6 music by The Wave Pictures, clever lyrics, great musicianship just right up my street.
  5. Bands for 2017

I seem to have hit a nerve! Perhaps it's just my lack of good vocabulary and pretentious was the wrong word to use in this context. If there's a good word out there to describe musical weirdness then I'm all ears. As for good old fashioned R&R, no gimmicks and no David Brent dancing required.
  6. Bands for 2017

If there's going to be any additions to the line-up then I'm hoping and praying that they add some good old fashioned rock n roll. I've just had enough of all the pretentious odd ball stuff that's coloured this year's offering.
  7. I was hoping that someone familiar and exciting would be added but i'm now in agreement that it's going to be more about the undercard. Have spent some time listening to the headliners to give them a fair crack but it's just not happening unfortunately.
  8. Bands for 2017

There seems to be an awful lot of what ifs and maybe`s. I feel so much happier now that I`m not bothered.
  9. Bands for 2017

I didn't realise it was BYO, happy days!
  10. Bands for 2017

The references made to the quality of the "undercard" has given me a boost. Having little interest in the headline acts opens things up nicely. Thursday's the only one that's floating my boat at the moment.
  11. Bands for 2017

This will be my first EOTR, having regretted most of the previous missed ones and I`m now very much looking forward to the experience. Despite a bit of a wobble when the first wave of acts was announced I`m now excited about a musical voyage of discovery. I can honestly say that I am not familiar with many of the acts, including two thirds of the headliners. I was wondering if any experienced EOTR`s feels that this year the organisers have taken a different direction or backwards step in terms of the popularity of the acts? Was it becoming a bit too mainstream? I heard the founder of the festival on the radio saying that he always wanted a very personal feeling to the event so has this been lacking in recent years?
  12. Just seen the latest line up additions and the headliner shot in the arm that I was hoping for hasn't happened. As they say every cloud has a silver lining so more time to spend elsewhere. I`m Looking forward to seeing Slowdive and Pond though so not all bad.
  13. Having spent a few days listening to some of the bands on spotty (couldn't find a play list for this year's lineup) and receiving some good helpful replies here I'm feeling more confident that I've made the rite choice in EOTR. Still not that excited about the headiners, hopefully some possible later additions might spice things up a bit.
  14. In my limited experience of smaller festivals there has been a tendency to have a volume is best policy and a lack of consideration for others and audiences ear drums. I do hope EOTR errs on the side of quality. Maybe i'm showing my age, but so many live venues now just do the volume up to 11 thing. Shutting everything down for the headliner sounds a bit overkill though.
