  1. I actually thought it was really nice of Elton to bring on some up and coming artists rather than the big names people had been speculating over. Using his slot to give younger artists some exposure. Still, he would have been absolutely fine without them. If I am a really big fan of someone I don't like it if guests take away valuable time in the set!
  2. I kind of agree with this. If a band is good enough, they don't need guests. Guests are really for casual spectators and the BBC audience, in my opinion, unless it's for example Nick Cave bringing Kylie Minogue on for the duet that they originally sang together - that's okay.
  3. Once again I never got past the holding page, but good to see some successes. 2 groups from the spreadsheet. I was also helping other friends and there two out of three groups (with 50 helpers) got sorted. Edit: 90 helpers!
  4. Nice question! This. i got two of them. A food can with holes in it. You put a tea light in them. Looks lovely in the dark. I think I bought it in the early 2000s, up JazzWorld / Avalon way if I remember correctly.
  5. A Facebook friend of mine got through less then a minute after 18:00. Got his preferred departure (Bath) too..

    Avalon 2024

Leftfield?? But maybe it's just the solo slot. He has a lot going on over the next while.
  7. I went through all the Pyramid acts on the poster today and you have a point. Not a single discovery.

    Avalon 2024

Just saw a post on the Frank Turner Army from someone who works at the Avalon stage. He confirmed that Frank will be solo. For me that's good news, as it will be different from last time and I have tickets to see him with the Sleeping Souls in autumn... Happy days.
  9. No, nothing at all.
  10. Exactly. Last year was a lot of "could be nice" names too, but also Steve Earle. He ended up being one of my highlights of the entire festival.
  11. Bumping this as I am sure I am not the only one wondering about playlists.
  12. I saw them in 2011. Didn't plan on it, but it was so wet and muddy that I couldn't be bothered moving after Elbow. To my surprise I really enjoyed them. Skipped them in 2016, but ended up regretting that so much after watching it on the iPlayer afterwards...
  13. Hilarious! (even though I like Coldplay!)
  14. Any time I have used Eventim it has worked really well. German efficiency I presumed.
  15. Leftfield would be cool too, though how early would you need to be there... The new album is heavy, so the Acoustic is probably out of the question, though it would be a nice big tent.
  16. I don't know if you can count this as a self confirm yet, but I certainly take it as one. Just watched a Q&A that Frank Turner did on Instagram live yesterday, and he was asked about Glastonbury. Big grin and a wink, and he said "Who knows?!"
  17. If you are volunteering you will meet people regardless. You'll be working with others and fellow volunteers will chat. It's different from going solo as a punter, which is also okay, but harder to make contact.
  18. I have, though not knowingly! Twice in the 90s I went on a "package" from Ireland. This included flight, transport to the site and entrance to the festival. It was only in hindsight that I realized I never saw a ticket! Guy from Dublin must have known someone on the gate who cooperated with this. I got a flyer offering this combo at a Waterboys concert. The price was reasonable and I have to say it all worked fine. Flight to Bristol; minivan that went along backroads to some gate. The other folks on the "package" were nice and we camped together.

    SZA

What I like most about her is that album cover. I remember cycling around rainy Dublin one morning and seeing a huge billboard of a girl sitting on a diving board over the blue sea. I didn't know anything about her. Looked SO appealing!
  20. Listening to Black Pumas right now. Very nice. I love how the Glastonbury line up gets me to listen to stuff I might otherwise not come across, like Gabriels previously.

Thanks for that Lollapalooza clip. I watched one minute of it. I want to be open-minded, but anything with so many pointless dancers on stage is not my cup of tea. Reminds me of Bollywood films, and the over-long Taylor Swift concert film I sat through in another attempt to be open-minded. I just don't get the appeal of so many people busily jumping around. Glastonbury is about the music for me....
  22. Such an interesting life story! Leaving India, marrying someone she met in a museum to get a residence permit, getting signed by John Hammond, working with these jazz greats, getting re-discovered and sampled by hip hoppers and now a late career renaissance. Excellent compilation 'The Essential Asha Puthli' seems to include all her reinventions on one disc.
  23. Ah. I copied that schedule from a Brazilian fan account. Am now wondering if not Måneskin, maybe they'll have Victoria doing a DJ set, given that that's what she is doing all over the place at the moment?!
  24. Interesting feature on Asha Puthli, who will be on West Holts.
