  1. agreed. She had a massive few albums in the US such that a generation that grew up in the US at start of 80's will probably recall songs (more than the 3 that CalGon just asked for) more easily than Mac songs at the time. I think in the US market she's seen as Stevie Nicks the solo artist as much as her Fleetwood Mac history, while in UK she's mainly seen as part of Fleetwood Mac. Her albums weren't ever as big hits here in UK, I don't even recall her touring extensively here while she was filling places up on US tours. Bella Donna and The Wild Heart were very big albums with multiple staple songs steered into memory of US audiences, and regular staples on US album rock format stations in 80's....still are on US 'classic rock' formats today too
  2. 'subbed' Dolly!
  3. 13 years since their (only) great Glastonbury set
  4. Geddy and Alex making an appearance would be incredible.... incredible it's a year I'm missing too...
  5. Didn't see them in '99 but 2003 was fantastic, one of the truly best Glasto years, and getting REM and Radiohead (who were even better than REM) the next day makes it one of the best lineup years for headliners. Plus Manics were just a few years off from headlining and their Sunday penultimate slot was great as well, as the rain came down. '03 my second favorite after '09

    The churnups

that was the year The Strokes rumour was going around.... 2010?
  7. David Lindley... RIP I know perhaps not much of a name to today's younger E-Festers (a decade-plus ago on here there'd be a thread up on him immediately) but he was a legendary musician. For Jackson Browne's two sets in 2010 I believe one of them (acoustic or pyramid) was billed as 'Jackson Browne featuring David Lindley' When the lineup came out this week, I was actually discussing with a friend the somber topic of how many artists/musicians whom we've lost that I've seen on Worthy Farm (not how many who have actually played, but how many you've caught in person there) and I sadly found myself easily into the 20's..from the most obvious (Charlie Watts + Bobby Keys from Saturday night/2013, David Crosby, Lou Reed) to the most obscure yet still memorable (Ben Andrews, the troubadour who opened up the Pyramid on Radiohead day 2003, or Jack White's energetic keyboardist Ikey Owens).... I also think just about the entire Neil Young band from 2009 has passed apart from Shakey.
  8. she did Avalon last time in 2014... for me, her most brilliant hour at Glasto was on Friday sunny afternoon 2003 on West Holts 'One World' (that year)...incredible set
  9. He (Bacharach) played a previous or two times before 2015 didn't he as well? Even though my parents played his records forever when I was young, my forever memory now whenever I hear "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" is getting my first cider at Cider Bus on Thursday/2014 and the song being played at the bus literally as I took my first few sips, rain dripping into my pint and head.... If I recall, 2014 was supposed to be a sunny one, but the rains that Thurs/Fri came on as a bit of a surprise.
  10. ...but Willie played it in 2000
  11. By coincidence this past weekend, I was sharing an old email from the immediate aftermath of '04 with a friend where we were comparing experiences that (muddy) year... In that email I had taken a few quotes/posts from E-Festers from that immediate week after (late June or early July) as we discussed James Brown...here were a sample that I chose as "best" bits.... JAMES BROWN James Brown. Should have been billed as 'The James Brown Band and Parody'. I'm glad I didn't really make an effort to go and watch him walk on stage 10 minutes in and only take part in every 2nd or 3rd song The godfather of soul might has well have been a cardboard cutout, he spent most of the gig conducting the band with his back to the audience. The band were cool though. As for bands, James Brown was awful, and Oasis didn't seem to care, other than that didn't see a bad performance. James Brown - absolute tripe, we walked off and got a curry i know james browns old but it was the 12 minute intro and the constant backslaping “look at me im a legend attitude” that pissed me off, plus the fact the backing singers did most of the work. Did he need to be there? Quite a let down, I feel James Brown - he only did about 20% of the singing whats wrong with u people saying james brown was a low point?? i thought he had the best performance..... as if we were watching him in his prime, he is in his 70's u no. the crowd was lovin it, perfect for the time of day to get everyone in the mood james brown was one of the best acts of the weekend.on a damp cparry sunday afternoon he got nearly the whole crowd jigging with some real cool upbeat music.at 71 th man is a legend.
  12. Lots of Springsteen fans on the Backstreets forums lament the song as one of his worst, and it featured so prominently and so early (third song in generally?) on the front end of that tour that it sort of took the momentum out early... Trying to convert the Pyramid field that evening with Outlaw Pete so early in the set probably put off a few curious skepticals... I for one, thought it was a great set, one of my fave on the Pyramid Neil specifically on here would complain in the days after that '09 set how he left the field as soon as 'Outlaw Pete' came on (I recall he was playing the new album in the months prior to the set to see what this 'Boss' person was about and was already complaining about 'that song' prior to late June), which is why I mentioned that song in his post. I find Working on a Dream to be one of his - or perhaps 'the' - weakest albums overall and it's just a shame that the timing of his one Glastonbury appearance came just as that album was coming out. Who knows what might be out come June 2024, but it surely will be better than Working on a Dream, even if nothing new comes out. I saw Springsteen in May, June, Sept, Oct, and Nov that year ('09') and by the November show Outlaw Pete was gone from the setlist.
  13. Was fortunate enough to make it to Newport Folk Festival this past weekend for first 2 days. On Saturday, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats played 10 Paul Simon songs with various guests joining in (Natalie Merchant, Midlake, Marcus Mumford and more) and then for the big surprise, Paul Simon comes out of retirement unannounced for 4 songs - Graceland, American Tune, The Boxer, Sound of Silence...pretty incredible I must say oh, and The National were incredible headlining Friday... I didn't have access to Sunday, where Joni Mitchell made her return to the festival she last played 1969... I missed Glastonbury this year, so Newport was my summer festie... It's the only festival in the US that has the long history of famed sets that something like Glastonbury has...small, intimate, around 12,000 and it sells out on the day tickets go on sale with no lineup announcements having been made. If you have means to travel to US later in summer some year and want to pick a festie, and are into the Americana music, you'll have more of an experience at something like this than at a Coachella (if you're one of the 'older' peeps on here, like me)
  14. EStreeters and U2 for 2024 then. 'Outlaw Pete' dropped from set.
  15. not only are they great, but the true legends are your fellow attendees who quickly return items. I woke up in my tent realizing I had lost my wallet on a big Thursday night 2010, and so that Friday morning, hoping for a complete miracle, I ventured out to their hq and it was there. This being someone travelling from the US, attending by himself at the festival... lucky result and I'm one who always speaks so highly of the lost property crew and the part played by attendees
