  1. BBC's The Biggest Weekend 2018

Think the press got carried away with the ‘Glastonbury replacement’ line, seeing as the only comparison seems to be the coverage, and naturally it’s gonna be that large if they’re planning four simultaneous events. As for the arrangement; I’m expecting a festival per each station and on the surface it’ll be the same as any year but with all the events taking place on the same weekend rather than Feb, May, Sep etc. Hopefully the 6music leg will be a bit more substantial because of the proximity to Primavera. Wouldn’t expect camping if they’ve never introduced it before and it’d cost a bunch more for the BBC for no real reward.

If anyone listened to that Sioux Falls record I was raving about last year, they released their follow up on Friday under their new name Strange Ranger and it's titled 'Daymoon'. Much more laid back than Rot Forever was but it's a good jam. Fer fans of early Modest Mouse, (Sandy) Alex G and other emo-tinged indie rock.

  4. Lineup 2018

I dunno I guess they just reached out to Fall Out Boy first. I woulda thought they'd have booked Biffy Clyro on their own if they had lined it up in advance or hadn't approached Fall Out Boy, especially as they ended up headlining each site with a longer set, but that's just a guess. Also I think we heard they were struggling for a third headliner at some point in January hadn't we? And then came the Fall Out Boy/Biffy Clyro stuff. Anyway, basically, normally I'd think Radiohead weren't much of a R+L act but I wouldn't dismiss the 2016 thing personally, and I guess if there was an opportunity to have them on some sort of exclusive across the few dates they were playing then they'd take that for sure. Not expecting them or anything.

    Nowt just being fresh.

Your favourite albums are essentially eFests' consensus favourite albums. That's wild.
  7. Lineup 2018

Foals/FOB was never a thing. It was reported by someone on here who "heard it at the festival", despite us knowing about Foals and Disclosure headlining in November or earlier. Biffy weren't picked up by anyone cos they'd already headlined everywhere since their last hit. Fall Out Boy and Biffy Clyro were obviously the replacement coheadliners - why would Biffy have been a coheadliner so soon after if not? Radiohead were the only name given by Neil and he seemed fairly confident, and obviously if they were meant to have been booked then they were seen as an appropriate headliner regardless of undercard. If it wasn't them then who was it who dropped out? And are they in contention for 2018?
  8. Lineup 2018

I dunno, I think their reach is being underestimated a bit. I'm sure loads of kids just getting into rock/indie rock would be all over a Radiohead set. And they've just been around the world playing Creep and Fake Plastic Trees to massive festival crowds so I don't think the difficult fans' band thing is really as consistent a thing as it used to be (tho maybe not load all the hits at the end like Glastonbury). Seems fine to me really. Guess they'd not be there if Foo Fighters were (might be a bit too Glasto 2017 considering they're possibly gonna have to appeal to that audience) but maybe Foos do their own shows, Arctics aren't ready and Radiohead are the major band ready to carry the weekend.
  9. Lineup 2018

Was just thinking about acts not listed above that could be in contention and I know this is daft but I got to wondering about Radiohead. They were apparently in talks or provisionally in place for 2016 weren't they? 2017 they had Glastonbury already sorted and 2018 they said they're doing a few shows next year before going off for a while, so lets make up for binning 2016 lads.

There's not much of it because there's not much call for it nowadays in rock music. Bands get by well enough and earn admiration through working hard, putting on captivating performances and using their platform to inform or inspire, and perhaps can't afford to/don't feel the need to be disrespectful or inflammatory. Give me that over a 45 year old dude whinging into an echo chamber about how bands are crap now and the world used to be better twenty years ago. Obviously I appreciate that's who he is and he doesn't need to temper that down if his fans like it but the problem I had was with him anchoring his songs with randomly placed but seemingly contrived potshots and quotes that work to make the rest of it redundant.
  11. Lineup 2018

Hey, welcome. The headliners should be officially known in announcements towards the end of November, January and February (or the start of following months) but sticking around here should mean you hear the headliners in advance thru eFestivals info or other helpful peeps (we knew all three by December last year). As for who we think now, we haven't really had any solid suggestive info and guesses are mostly based on who assumed to be touring next summer but you'll see who the most common suggestions are by just following the thread or checking recent discussions.
  12. Liam Gallagher

I felt like that fell on the wrong side of the line between inspiration and imitation. Didn’t seem to be many of his own nuances to it. Tho it was a bonus track so maybe they thought the same. Anyway, I’m bamboozled by the acceptance it’s getting. To me it doesn’t seem to be a step up from the maligned Beady Eye albums. I agree with @reflekting about the Little James over and over thing and I think the only heights it briefly reaches is ‘late-Oasis album track’ level. And all the NME-pandering namedrops, pop culture references and nods towards Noel; I realise that the music plays second fiddle to the public persona but I don’t think it’s all that necessary - people aren’t about to switch off if he doesn’t remark dismissively about selfies and One Direction.
  13. LCD Soundsystem....

I can only imagine the article author does too and theneedledrop’s words on American Dream are why they just did this article on age old stuff. /s
  14. LCD Soundsystem....

Does a pretty good job of dragging the article here and unloads some stuff I didn't know about the podcast situation. Will think more about it tomorrow.
  15. Lineup 2018

I'm assuming they won't be active personally but even if they are I think R+L could definitely afford to wait. In fact, last time Glastonbury had them first and it worked a wonder by (somehow) putting the band back on the map in time for a successful booking at Reading the next year. If they started bringing back the same acts with the same albums behind them every couple of years because they expect fans to piss off after a couple of years then they'll fall into the same trap as V rotating Killers and Kings of Leon into the ground.
  16. 2019 Headliners

That's how it was meant to be. Yeah I agree really - there's no way he's scaling Adele and Ed Sheeran heights but I don't think that's now the bar for pop singers to headliner Glastonbury. He'll perhaps be a one or two nights at Wembley headliner down the road but most tellingly I think him subheadlining festivals on his debut album tour shows that they're ready to lift him to the top. And regarding what he says on stage; he seems to say plenty of dumb stuff off stage so he's probably as well talking as little as possible.
  17. 2019 Headliners

    What if it's more successful?
  18. Tour Announcements & Upcoming Gigs

Too quiet? Yep definitely Old Trafford.
  19. 2019 Headliners

He can't do V, or any European festivals post mid-June really. So his window for European festivals is summer 2019, which is the bad thing. The bad thing! He's top of the charts right now. I too thought Adele and Sheeran returning would have done the job to confirm that Smith was just a placeholder but it hasn't worked and he's on course to Sunday night Pyramid headliner come 2019. The writing's on the wall, as they say.
  20. Tour Announcements & Upcoming Gigs

Only just realised this is the football Old Trafford. Didn't even know they held concerts there.
  21. 2019 Headliners

Sam Smith plotting one h u g e arena tour through US next summer is bad news for Glastonbury 2019.
  22. Tour Announcements & Upcoming Gigs

    and Fatboy Slim
  23. The National

Could probably do that to some extent at Castlefield Bowl.
  24. Lineup 2018

whut I don’t think Arctics will be in the mix if they don’t know when the album’s coming. I know in some bands’ cases it’s okay to do shows before the album’s out but R+L was one of the last shows of the last tour so that’s be well too soon.
  25. Liam Gallagher

Didn’t know that. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith is due to be a goodie too.
