  1. Same as @Mardy. In years we are not there we tend to just carry on, some years we have spent the money on other activities but it isnt the end of the world. Especially now that there are no headliners left that are Must See for us.
  2. Heavy use of Prince's old drum machine is my first thought. I like that though.
  3. Indeed. I often disagree (a lot) with Billy and I often disagree with Frank, doesn't mean that I don't go along and listen to what they have to say and enjoy their sets. Tony Benn was very clear on this need for dialogue and discussion.
  4. Interesting lineup. Glad I've got another chance to see Skindred.
  5. It's missing a big US act that I'm a shoe-in for - your Martha Wainwrights/Steve Earle's of this world but still some interesting additions.
  6. I would do an all nighter definitely, prob ending with a sunrise at the Stone Circle.
  7. Anyhow. Silver Hayes, Avalon and Acoustic are the stages we are most looking forward to so really would love to see them out first. Then West Holts, Leftfield and Glade.
  8. yay - what good news.
  9. Can it be part of the meetup? I love pudding.
  10. I do become a proper jobsworth about this because it does threaten the licence and really affects the feeling onsite. But mostly because I'm out there in all weathers contributing for my ticket and others are just chucking a security guard some cash. The first year I did recycling we were camped in where Block 9 is now and that was where the fence had a massive hole in. That was actually really fun.
  11. I would agree - there are some roles that can be made viable with a RA and there are some that can't and the charities and orgs should be clear about that. I may be reaching the end of my ability to litterpick for example and I am ok with that as I think they should be able to specify x, y, z. Other roles should have very clear RA policies and make sure that they are delivering what they say they wil. What they shouldnt do is claim one thing and do another.
  12. 2007 was unrelentingly wet but worse than that it was cold as well. I did get married that year though in a big dress, Mr Giantkatestacks in a tuxedo.
  13. For me outside working between 5.30am and 11-12am litterpicking in the mud and rain is beyond grim. The shifts are hard enough as it is. Anyone not minding the rain and the mud is welcome to try their hand at volunteering in it.
  14. I saw this yesterday. It is interesting but I want to see their workings.
  15. This was the whole story of the Golden Age of Hollywood an the star system though wasn't it - very familiar to our parents/grandparents.
  16. Yes - that's why I wrote that I was troubled by some of the aspects. TBF my daughter has written presentations and essays on the darkness in this particular scene and the lens through which western fans view and consume K and J pop. They consume it knowing about the contradictions and the challenges. They both obsess about their 'stans' but also can often critique the whole thing with far more fluidity than I can. Its interesting.
  17. I dont think it will anger people - its true that us old people just dont get it. It isnt for us though. The 15 year old says they actually lip synch less than western pop acts as they are overly trained to be good singers and rappers - that's part of the problem I personally have with kpop, the fact that these young people are expected and pressured to dance and sing and rap at 100% perfection in a society that has very high self harm rates.
  18. For the younguns its an immersive thing - they listen/watch kpop and the shows where the bands get formed, they watch kdrama and films, eat korean food and use Korean beauty products - thats why it is known as Hallyu the Korean wave though to be fair thats been going on for decades. It is a transformation of our assumptions about where culture needs to come from and how it gets disseminated. Its fascinating really. I suppose what I'm saying is just viewing it as Xfactor type stuff is a lazy view of its importance and impact globally.
  19. Yeah that first track follows the normal formula of 4 different tracks in one. TBF K-pop tracks are all written by the same people as other pop artists. https://www.koreaboo.com/stories/reason-kpop-so-many-swedish-songwriters/
  20. OK the 15 year old is back from additional maths and tells me that Seventeen are massive, bigger than Stray Kids who are at BST this year. She recommends a couple of tracks:
  21. One of the only 3 poster acts my 20 year old has reacted to. He's very underwhelmed have told him to hold on for the rest of SE corner/Silver Hayes.
  22. Hmm this for me is just lacking a) a big US legendary act - a Ronnie Spector or a Burt Bacharach. b) a Proper bangerfest singalong of a slot c) Just one act I have never seen that would make the weekend for me - Pulp for example. There is lots here I really like but I have seen them before and they are playing odd stages and slots that may well not work. Its a lineup that will rely on decent weather as well. I can report back on Seventeen when the k-pop correspondent returns after school.
