  1. Has anyone ever been? How difficult is it to get tickets? Would you recommend it? Any tips?
  2. Arcadia

The Arcadia Instagram page is warming up. Looks like an announcement maybe imminent...
  3. Acts you don't "get"

Have an upvote for effort! A pity upvote, maybe...
  4. Acts you don't "get"

Was just stood in a queue in the Co-Op and they were playing Biffy Clyro. Not sure which song, could've been any of them. Never got the Biff.
  5. Mad Cool 2018

Nice bit of detective work! I would be tempted to get at least a day ticket for Pearl Jam. I'm sure they'll play numerous festivals throughout Europe but I really liked Madrid and the new site looks intriguing. And it can't rain like it did this year...can it?
  6. eFestival Music Awards 2017

I'm in, under the proviso that I can change a couple answers should any gigs, albums or songs between now and December 31 change my mind: 1. Rate Glastonbury Festival 2017 (0 - 10 score) 8 - could have been my best ever, under different circumstances 2. Best Glastonbury ever (Year) 2013 - good weather, good company 3. Best Performance at Glastonbury 2017 Justice 4. Worst Performance at Glastonbury 2017 None of any note 5. Best album of the year Pond - The Weather 6. Best song of the year Chase & Status - Step Away 7. Best gig/tour of 2017 Underworld - Alexandra Palace 8. Best Other Festival 2017 Mad Cool Festival, Madrid 9. Most Wanted Band for Glastonbury 2019 Depeche Mode 10. Best New Act Baba Naga (not necessarily "new", but new to me) 11. Legend Award (Dead or Alive!) Michael Eavis 12. Biggest Loss To Music in 2017 Chris Cornell :-(
  7. Electronica/Dance

Anyone else going to this? I missed out on the Barbican show earlier this year.
  8. Foo Fighters

Anyone started queuing outside the Cheese & Grain yet?
  9. The Documentary Film Thread

Thoroughly recommend "All This Mayhem", the story of skateboarding brothers Tas and Ben Pappas. Edit: it's actually on YouTube. Watch it while you still can:
  10. Favourite venues

Damn it, how could I forget that! I saw Morrissey there last year! Super cool place. Everything a modern venue should be
  11. Favourite venues

Wow, Reds Lounge looks cool! I hadn't considered venues abroad. I've been to a few. Most memorable ones were: La Cigale, Paris - beautiful interior Paradiso, Amsterdam - nice venue but if you're at the barrier, as the stage is very high you tend to get neck ache after 3 hours Terminal 5 - cool three-tiered balcony but terrible sound
  12. Favourite venues

Damn, I forgot about the Roundhouse! Great place. Never had a bad gig there, in hindsight

A few weeks ago I finally got the chance to get to go to a gig (Flaming Lips) at the Barrowland in Glasgow, which was everything I expected and I loved it. I'm from Devon so my opportunities were limited to get to Glasgow but a change in job means I'm there more often nowadays. It got me thinking, what other iconic venues around the UK and beyond should I be checking out? My top 5 (I think), in no particular order are: Rock City, Nottingham - sound always seems to be great, quite intimate and a great aftershow party next door 02 Academy, Brixton - love the sloping floor. Feels like an iconic venue too. Always get excited seeing the dome lit up in green with the band name underneath. The Thekla, Bristol - it's a boat. Barrowland Ballroom, Glasgow - feels like a cross between a gig venue and my local British Legion. In a good way. 100 Club, London - a really strange pillar in the middle of the room but I love all of the photos on the wall and has a historic feel when you're in there. Where are your favourite venues and why?
  14. Flaming lips

Saw them for the first time last night. I made a point of seeing them whilst working in Glasgow as clash hell prevented it at Glastonbury. From the minute they walked on until the last piece of confetti had fallen I had the biggest smile on my face. So much fun. Seeing Wayne Coyne ride around the Barrowlands on a fibre optic unicorn is something I thought I'd never write.
