Yes! Brilliant!

Last year I took too much, by the time I got to the festival (on the coach from Leeds) my hands had massive blisters from carrying the two huge cargo bags full of beer. Was great got loads of black tokens from Carling Amnesty! Was all Tesco crap, got my hands were bleeding for hours but when the tent was up and I'd had a few it was all worth while. lol
No amnesty this year I think I might need to drive...

Bring proper drink itll be much more expensive this year for me.
Liverpool_Danny
im not looking forward to carring all of that do you reckon i get somethign like this ?

A few years ago someone on the Glasto bord did an experiment with freezing beer. It worked ok apparently but you have to get the right brand so the can dosent burst.

Frozen beer never tastes the same once it's thawed mad.gif I've done it accidentally by leaving Stella cans in the freezer too long & when they were ready to drink they were a bit of a disappointment sad.gif
mercary
I normally take a box of wine, a bottle of some kind of shots (apple sourz usually) and a crate of Fosters. Mmm.

It does't matter how much you take, by the Friday most of it will be gone! laugh.gif

VODKA

beer has to be out - too much chance of pissing yourself in your sleeping bag.

and less of a bad head with voddy than jack.

also it looks like water so must be good for you in some way. maybe.
ofgreetingsandgoodbyes
This yaer I will be taking two crates of Fosters, two big bottles of Cider, box of red wine, a bottle of Absinthe, a bottle of Vodka and a load of red bull/fanta/sprite !
atarisleaalk3
ill be taking a bottle of malibu, amaretto and vodka, and i usually take a box of that sweet white wine, either hock or leibfraumlich, cus its pretty refreshing, so i might try the freezing it tip this year!!

i will aslo be getting a crate of cider (probably woodpecker) from tesco. and mixers for the afforementioned spirits
nu-marc88
2 frozen bottles of cider, a couple of crates lager/cider

and a shitload of nasty tesco own brand lager to swap at the beer amnesty.

just remembered carling are no longer sponsors, what will happen to the amnesty, any hope it will be there this year?

im not holding my breath for one like.

as it wasnt organised by the festival, it was a specifically carling coined idea. and if there is no major brand lager sponsoring the event, then there may not be a sole brand of lager onsale, therefore no sole brand of lager to rake in the profits, and be able to afford to swap crap lager for thier own free of charge.

plus, knowing greedy companies these days, its probably copyrighted or summit so no other brand can pinch the idea!
Splinter
i normaly set up camp then go to the tesco and pick up a crate or two of strongbow, if they have any left... some vodka to mix, maybe tequila and jacks. See how adventurous i am. After shock last year seeing as the aftershock tent had gone.
kenny_needs_T
why apple sourz? its 6% or something, not a even a bottle of wine. just think, when you take a shot its like a shot of crap wine as wine is about 12%. just shot wine. plus its so sugaryand sticky you have to drink alot of water/soft drinks to not feel permanently thirsty. i'll be taking 60 cans of strongbow and a box of wine.
Splinter
kenny: i fully agree, each to their own tho
kenny_needs_T
yeah, totally. each to there own. just giving my opinion. oh and what is wangy, since deciding to some to leeds ive heard about it but ive no idea what it is?
Claws
Its 15% i think but i do agree with you.

I reckon this year il take 2 crates of carlsberg, a litre of vodka and im tempted to try claireg_729's tip of freezing a box of wine to keep things cool smile.gif.

Does anyone know if the shop sells 2 litre bottles of coke? and when it opens?
the_mute
This year, I'm looking at...

3 Litre Box of Rose wine (frozen)

20 Strongbow (I prefer Magners, but this stuff honestly tastes like liquid gold in the heat)

and to finish off, a nice half frozen bottle of Smirnoff! (Doesn't freeze properly, but does turn to syrup)

The shop onsite? Opens at 9 on the Wednesday, not sure when it closes.

Tesco? Opens at 8, but it depends when the buses start running.

Claire, sweetie, How Are You?

Mental me thinks, although frozen white wine sounds okay.. but..... what if you want to drink it first and it's, well, frozen?

Couldn't you just do red wine - which is okay warm. And if you have warm coke (Urggh) you can mix it with the cheap shit red wine to make motxo?

Meths would be a good festie drink me thinks. It would double as a firelighter.

Meths and Red Wine. That's one to try... I'll report back in a few days..
Fieldsy8
Can you actually buy beer at the festival.?

If so how much is it going to cost.?

Lol, am doing that then.

I think I'm going to bring my new fave Smirnoff Ice! (<3)

But other than that, lots of Vodka, flavoured rum, (my friend says Absinthe ¬¬), frozen wine sounds lovely so I'll get some of that, Baileys (don't ask why...just like it is all), Malibu, Fosters and Special Brew...as well as WKD for laughs and tonnes upon tonnes of my favourite thing in the world, MILKSHAKE.

But seriously, anything alcoholic will suit me. I ain't picky, but you guys are seriously coming up with some good ideas, and I certainly commend you for that, its my first time so I need to super-prepare alcoholically. laugh.gif

mmmmm slush puppy wine. sounds good.

Matt is fine - I think.

Still unsure about Leeds. I would like MrsW to come along too but Matt's not so keen. Aja (daughter) will be in Spain so seems a bit tight to leave Karen (Mrs.W) on her own.

on t'other hand three tickets will cost me £450 and Matt and I spent about £400 last time when it was just the two of us. And as someone once said "a grand don't come for free"

I guess it depends who is on. Current rumours don't do much for me.

it's odd to write on here while sober.

it's odd to be sober.
Splinter
would be good to see you guys there again this year. you'l have to pay for matt to get in this year though wont ya, so that is a considerable amount more.
farmer_andy
ill be taking beeerr to enjoy while its still cold, then to drink anyway when its not.
And cider to enjoy all weekend. Ahhhh how wonderful to have a drink you can actually bear at leeds festival tent temperature!

Im boring me tongue.gif

With any luck, Weston's Old Rosie tongue.gif

7.3%, does magical things I tell you! Incidentally, seeing as they only seem to sell 20L boxes (too much for me, I'm sure anyone who's had some will agree...) or Glass 2 L bottles...would it still taste allright if I transferred it into empty plastic ones, does anyone know? Its not fizzy so I can't see it being a problem:)

Last year me and one other mate got through 5 bottles of tesco value vodka and a crate of stronbow by Friday...

Gonna have to double it this year

Shouldnt affect the taste or anything much if at all. Obviously if it were fizzy it may go slightly flat, but as you said its not. smile.gif

Its not quite the same, but its still Weston's & is still 7.3%, but their Organic Vintage Cider is available in 3L boxes - clicky

If I could get them individually (not in 4s as on that link), i'd be seriously tempted.

edit; In fact bing bang bong smile.gif

That it does! Perfect state to be in at Leeds biggrin.gif

I've seen Organic Vintage 3L Boxes in Tescos occasionally before, but after my first taste of Old Rosie the other day I'm gonna find it difficult to go back tongue.gif
Gonna have to keep an eye out for 2L bottles, they have them in Tescos sometimes but more often in Morrisons. Being a southerner thats a bit of a problem dry.gif

Am I right in thinking the bars at Reading/Leeds sell pretty much anything a normal bar would do? Obviously with the former Carling sponsorship that was the lager of choice but how about non-lager drinks such as Magners? I realise they cost a fortune inside the festival but I'd rather pay over the odds for a nice cold drink than buy it cheaper outside and have to drink it warm. I'm guessing the bags of ice would disappear from the local Tescos pretty quickly?

Yeah the have all the normal drinks you will find at a normal bar. Gamers are going the cider this year apparnetly. You get the normal range of spirts and mixers too.
shungho
Isn't it generally quite restrictive? Can't answer with regards to spirits, but last year Strongbow was the only cider you could buy (apart from at the Cider Bar, which was proper stuff and tucked away a bit), and Carling/occasionally Grolsch were the only lagers. The main bars didn't sell much else AFAIK... obviously it'll change this year but I can't see them selling a huge range of beers - it'll more than likely be one or two lagers, and Carling are still quite likely to have 'pouring rights' for beer. Yay.

Incidentally, I've heard something about a 'Real Ale' tent/bar, does it exist? tongue.gif And where the bloody hell is it if it does?

Somerset Cider Company are usually there with single variety ciders and Cider brandy.

1/2 cider + 1 shot of brandy = excellent breakfast

Yeah, I think so (not sure where piccadilly was!) I think it was in the line of stalls after the fair and before you got to the wood selling place.

Oddly enough I don't really remember much in the way of 'details' - that's how I enjoy myself the most smile.gif
