They've been playing very well recently. James' voice is the best it has been in years and Lars has been drumming well. The European tour sets have been fairly predictable, but y'know it's pretty much a "best of" so it's what most people want. They've been playing a new song, "Cyanide", at every show since Ozzfest so we'll likely hear that and rumour has it the new single "The Day That Never Comes" is going to be played on US radio for the first time on the 22nd, so if we're lucky and they play it live that very day, we'll likely be the first people in the world outside of the media and people close to the band to hear it biggrin.gif

they were amazing when i saw them at wembley last year, and they seem pretty buoyed by death magnetic's completion, so i'd assume anyone wanting to watch them are in for a treat.
musicsfun!!!
They're always amazing, this will be my 4th time seeing them. They are one of the best live bands in the world, and Hetfield is awsome with the crowd!!

Ha, nope didn't notice. I wonder if they lived up to his expectations. Their 2003 Leeds performance was brilliant! There's a 14 second clip of the new album on their official website. Sounds really old school! Nice.

On the contrary, they're one of the best live acts going. That is as close to a fact as such a statement can be what with the size, scope and sales of their tours plus the awards their performances have garnered. If they're not your thing, and I assume they're not if you didn't go voluntarily, then it's fair enough that you didn't enjoy watching them play, but to then render their actual performance as being "dire" is just wrong.

So much better thrash and metal bands who put on 100 times better performances than Metallica. So much better bands that put on shows than Metallica. Metallica are dated and cheesy.

Hah. Dated. On almost everything they created prior to Load they were way ahead of their time. Master of Puppets is not only timeless, but usually rated as the greatest metal album of all time. I myself prefer AJFA but regardless, your opinion is not only shared with very few, but it's horribly ignorant. I can accept the "They haven't released anything good in 10 years" argument, but to piss on their entire catalogue branding it as "cheesy" is just laughable. And no, there has never been a thrash metal band that has created as many classic albums one after another as Metallica did between KEA and TBA. Nor can I say that I've seen another thrash metal band put on a better performance than Metallica. Of course it's easy to say "So many more bands put on a better show than Metallica". I'm not claiming they're the best in the world, it's useless opening the debate into Metallica Vs the rest of the music industry. But they are master at performing their music live, and when it comes to thrash you'll have a hard time finding many bands better on stage. If so, name them and tell me what makes them less dated, better performers and not cheesy.

Lol.

That basically sums up "you can't slate metallica cause I like them" in the "people with differeing opinions" horror.

I think my opinion is shared a bit more than simply with a few as well and it's not ignorant because I've heard all the Metallica albums, have a few of them and seen them live twice rolleyes.gif

I am not saying you can't not like them. I'm not saying you can't slate them, or find them the worst band on the planet. I'm saying you can't really say they're bad performers just because you don't like them. They clearly aren't bad at playing their material, and there is a lot to show otherwise. I'm allowed to not like The Killers (random example of a big band playing at Leed's I dislike), and not enjoy their performances, but if they're awesome on stage (I have no clue if they are; I've never seen them) I'm not going to say they suck, just that I didn't enjoy it because it's not my kind of thing. There is a difference between saying "I didn't like" and "They are terrible at what they do".

They are terrible. Predictable and boring. Sorry but that's what I, and a lot of others, have brought away from their performance.

Well, if you aren't a fan and you're expecting some kind of stage show, then I can understand that. But most Metallica fans when they go to a Metallica gig want them to play their hits really well and that's it. Maybe a bit of fire. I don't know why you expected some kind of rock opera, nor what other thrash metal bands you've seen that do it so differently. They aren't Kiss.

Im expecting a good performance for their reputation and it didn't live up.

Lol, they certantly aren't Kiss. They aren't Megadeth either. Or Slayer!

So what do they do that is so unboring and different? I've seen Slayer multiple times at both a festival and at a proper venue, and both times they were considerably more predictable and bog-standard than Metallica. Also, the quote "I just hate Metallica" says a lot about why you mightn't have enjoyed them tongue.gif

I didn't hate them before the first time I seen them. I confirmed my hatred after the 2nd!

Just boring. Absolutely no connection at all with the crowd. Can't work a stage, and all a tad boring. Lol its just my opinion anyway, chill!

for a thread I resurrected from five years ago this is doing quite well.

I think I'll go and find a 'rage against the machine are hypocritical shit heads with a bob marley wannabe yelper for a singer" thread.

Yeah, sorry if I got a little heated. I don't mind that you don't like them, I just think you're really wrong about their stage performances. But I guess if you found them boring, I can't tell you that you didn't. I think James works the crowd really well though in comparison to a lot of other acts (like Slayer) that play their material and... that's it. Not a word from them.

I have to come down on the side of Metallica - I have seen them about 6 times now - dating back to the times of the MOP album (showing my age again) and I have always really enjoyed their performaces. I hated St Anger as an album and I am pleased they seem to have decided to play very little from it now - new song sounds really good.

I have seen many thrash bands in the past and yeah some have given performances that compare or may even have been better - magadeth back in the day were amazing, slayer have always impresed, loved Annihilar and Anthrax. A band called Xentrix had to be a favourite (anyone remember them) but I love Metallicas music and have never been dissapointed in their performance.

I've loved Metallica since I was 15 and have never looked forward to seeing any band more. They are going to be awesome.

The new Metallica single, The Day That Never Comes, is being exclusively unveiled on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show this Thursday between 7 and 9pm. It's looking likely that us Leeds folk will be the first to hear it live ever.

I love Metallica predictability and to be honest they could play the same set at every festival I went to and they would still beat every other band hands down.

I predict they will be awesome, again!
