Exclusive: T in the Park stabbing suspect arrested after dramatic six hour rooftop siege
Aug 16 2008 By Mark McGivern

A MAN suspected of stabbing a T in the Park reveller was arrested yesterday after a dramatic six-hour rooftop siege.

He had clambered on to the roof after being cornered by police who swooped at 8am.
After a long stand-off, police finally talked the 24-year-old into giving himself up and he was led away in handcuffs.
He was in custody in Perth last night facing charges in connection with the festival stabbing and public order offences relating to the siege.

The man had refused to budge from the roof in Barrhead, Renfrewshire.

A neighbour later told how the raid on the property, in Grampian Way, had unfolded.
He said: "The police came at about 8am and cordoned off the street.
"They emptied the home and sent a man and two young girls out while they waited it out with the guy on the roof.
"Just after 1pm, he was passed a phone through a skylight and he made a call, probably to his lawyer, before handing himself in.
"Police took him away in handcuffs."

The suspect had been targeted in a joint operation by officers from Tayside and Strathclyde.
A police spokeswoman said: "A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in relation to a stabbing incident at T in the Park.
"He is expected to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday."

Mark Morrison, 22, from Airdrie, was stabbed 11 times on the head and body in the early hours of Sunday, July 13, at a T in the Park campsite in Balado, near Kinross.
He was with a group of friends when he was attacked by two men as he tried to protect a female pal.
Mark is now recovering at home and his dad Hugh said paramedics at the scene had saved his life.

Hugh said: "I can't thank the paramedics enough. I am very grateful to them.
"Mark went away for an enjoyable weekend. He is a quiet guy.
"When we saw him in hospital, he was covered in blood. He had puncture wounds to his lung."

Despite the stabbing, organisers of this year's three-day event, attended by more than 85,000 music fans, hailed it as an overall success.
Police made 67 arrests over the weekend - one more than in 2007 - with 30 people held in custody for court appearances.

Mark's stabbing prompted warnings from performers about the dangers of carrying knives.

In an unrelated incident, a 32-year-old man was found dead in a tent at the event, though police said there were no suspicious circumstances..

Got a good mind to go and hang about outside the court in Perth and wave some banners about.

'HOPE YOU GET ASS RAPED IN JAIL, SCUM' etc etc.

Would be great to think he'll get the book thrown at him but I don't have much faith.

Let's all keep in mind he hasn't been convicted and could be the wrong guy still.

sounds like he's guilty of something if he's hiding on a roof from the police right enough!

They did have someone in custody that night. We walked past when they had them in cuffs and we overheard someone saying to the police that it wasnt the right bloke. I presume they let them go. At that point we didnt realise it was a stabbing. We thought someones tent got raided.

No doubt they'll find his human rights have been violated and he'll get let free and a £1000 pay off.
Jake Riddoch
He's been charged with attempted murder now:

Spitting on 3 women and pushing one of them, sounds like a nice guy. Hope they make an example of him, folk using knives need to start getting f**ked for it and not just threatened with punishment like they do just now.

I'm no lawyer (and with good reason!) but he fact he made no statement and the whole hiding-on-the-roof-thing screams guilt as far as im concerned.

Looks like they did get some decent statements from people at T judging by the other things he has been charged with.
