Our local newspaper the "Perthshire Advertiser" have ran a story today informing us that apparently less than 100 unwanted tents were recycled after T In The Park.
Apparently, if tents were left in-situ they were not recycled - they would only be recycled if the person owning the tent packed it up and left it in the on-site deposit areas.
Did anyone on here think their tent would be recycled if they just left it set up?

I didn't care whether it would be recycled or not, I just wanted home.
We even left stuff in the tent

was it by the exit?
I thought I'd seen it up by the bit where silent disco etc were
however things do get a bit confused when you consume that much booze over a weekend..

So what does happen to tents that are left up? I know some of my pals left theirs up thinking it would go to africa! It was a decent tent too.

Think there's a few 'opportunists' arrive by van and go and collect a lot of tents on the Monday, although not sure if they are still allowed

Um no.
The information leaflet said if you wanted to donate you tent to vampires in transylvania then to take it to the recycle drop off point.

I knew they had the recycling points so assumed the ones just left up would be destroyed and only ones actually packed into the recycling fellaes would be, erm, recycled.
As someone else said, if you're going to be packing your tent up then surely it's to take it home with you.

when you're leaving theres folk going about dismantling tents anyway, they should just stick them on the back of one of they buggies and recycle them as they go along

Same reason why people used to go to the effort of taking their glass bottles to recycle bins when they could quite easily chucked them in their normal rubbish. Some people actually care about these things.
A lot of people who go to TITP will buy a cheap tent for that weekend only and leave it rather than take it home and store it for a year. So this just gives them the option if they're feeling generous to pack it up and donate it to a good cause.

I was "recycling" a tent left by someone from here last year, was alot of work as it was a beast, when a few scavengers appeared & started taking an interest in the pile of poles & inner rooms I had left. A swift "OI eyes off thats mine" got rid of them & they went on their merry way with their barra collecting chairs, tents, etc.

My tent survived the weekend and I kinda like it so I took it home. My mate recycled his tho cos he couldnt be assed carryin it any further. I'd imagine thats the only reason people woulda left them at the recyclin point unless their tent was fecked or they were a good wee soul!

Our tent survived for another festival, despite one of the zips on the door breaking. Although if i had my way, the tent would've been left at T last year. But at least people who leave their tents are helpful to people who end up losing tent pegs.

I left a brand new £249.99 tent, 8 man dome
We got it for £149.99 from www.tentastic.co.uk
It's an absolute topper.
The last 3 years I'#ve went I've always left the tent, sleeping bags, chairs, lamps, blow up beds etc etc.
Bit of a knob i am eh!

Fair enough leaving a 30 quid tent out of argos, but something for that price? What's the point? It's just a big massive waste of money on your part.
It's your money though.

I woke up on the sunday with a tent leaning on my tent. My neighbours had obviously just unpegged it, but it was annoying.
What was more annoying was the heavy object that landed on my shin while I was IN my tent in bed on the sunday night, nearly giving me a dead leg! All my mates heard was "OW! What the f**k was that!?". Only thing I could find outside the next day was a knackered sledge!

I got the 3 man £20 quid tent from tesco, and it held up pretty well
I couldn't be arsed taking it down, but maybe I should have, cos it definitely had some uses left in it. Even the transylvanians would've appreciated it

I'm sure last year you could just leave it up and various charities were involved in the collection. (however I'm still struggling to remember this years, never mind last years so dont take my word for it

)
All I know is that there was a lot of feckers stealing our tent pegs!

Skinny jeans are horrid, unless they are on a nice lassie that can pull it/them off, literally.
