This will be my first trip to Leeds, how easy/difficult is it to get your own booze into the arena? Not thinking cans or bottles, but a bag of Weston's or red wine each day.
It's been quite easy at T in the Park the last couple of years, on both Saturday and Sunday, I just walked in with it in a small rucksack, no one searched me or anything.

They pat down your sides, and may ask to look in your bag.

So they're not too strict then? Does the sacrificial can usually work? ie lobbing a half empty can, that you've been drinking on the way in, into a bin at the checkpoint.

They have someone at the 1st entrance, where they don't check you, telling you to thrown any cans into the big bins there, so you're empty-handed when you get to the narrow bits where they check you...

I never try sneaking some in to be honest, I buy a little inside, but mainly go back to our nearby-ish tents for quick drinking sessions.
That, and the fact I never get that drunk outside Thursday, and then each night.
The breakfast vodka usually keeps me going for a lot of the afternoons too! =D

Cheers for the info...I'll suss it out better when I get there.
I suppose I do it at T in the Park because it's such a long walk from the campsite to the arena that once you're in you are loathe to going back out again, just to get a drink. If you're saying that the campsite ain't that far from the arena at Leeds, it sounds like doesn't matter so much.

I save quite a bit of money to take to the festival and think theres nowt better than an ice cold cider from the bars inside the arena.

It does (I think) depend on the time you try to go in to the arena... Most bags are searched if youre a man, if youre a woman they might be glanced into...
I dont think its very easy to get booze in, at least last year it was fairly tricky for me (Maybe I look shifty...) I didnt try but every time I was searched quite a lot...

lol people just looking for quick cheats.
my tip is wear knee length socks n stick em in there underneath baggy jeans, then when you're queuing, quickly spot the steward that isnt checking people thoroughly and then queue in their corresponding line.
although i didnt try it last year as all i had was boddingtons, and they were too priceless to be gambling with

They pat you down and check peoples bags, you can probably sneak a couple of cans in but I cant see the point in that, might as well just go to the bar.

Aye, the odd can's easy enough to get in but anything substantial (the bag from a box of wine for example) will basically be just random chance. One day you might just walk it in, one day you won't - same with any fest really.

haha yeah i know!
at TITP i was worried cos it was my first one about how hard it would be but i got a capri sun carton - with the twisty lid- filled it with shots and put it at my jubbilies

then put a hoodie and a scarf on - got in no bother, on the sunday i thought i'd try more cos i had loads of drink left so i got a bottle of peach snapps with some malibu and some orange into a diluten juice bottle n put it at the waistband of my jeans n tied a hoodie round my waist and got in no bother!

Another thing that hasnt really been covered is alcohol in the arena after 11pm. They havent checked us at all in the past couple of years when we ventured to the 'cinema tent'. I got the feeling that they didnt care at all, seeing as we were just sat on camping stools in the converted Lock Up tent, with 4 cans of Strongbow each.
Not a lot of use to many people, but still worth knowing all the same.
