I can't imagine the festival being happy with bottles being sold, even if it's only in the campsite. Broken glass is far more dangerous and harder to clean up than crushed cans.

And Carlsberg and Tuborg taste almost exactly the same

You can get Turbourg in Plastic bottles of about 330ml's

It's pisswater, like Carlsberg, like Carling, like Fosters, etc.

^ What he said. You can get cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles and kegs. Same as pretty much every other Beer under the sun.

Not really looking forward to Tubourg tbh. It was the free beer at an event i was at in London last year, i'd assumed it was from Lidl or some such place, it tasted like it! Given the choice i think i'd rather have Carling back rolleyes.gif

On the Beer Amnesty: It wouldn't surprise me to see Festival Republic doing it themselves this year. It's become part of the festival, i wouldn't think they'd let it disappear. If Tubourg won't do it then i'm sure they'll foot the bill themselves...

It's proberbly been answered before, but what's the point of the Cold beer exchange?

By that I mean what does the festival have to gain from it, rather than us?

I just can't see what benefit they get from handing over chilled cans of much more expensive lager, for warm cans of fizzy tesco brand piss?

First and foremost it's publicity - that beer costs them next to nothing to make, and I'll bet that they'd have to spend a lot more cash on advertising than they do on the free booze before they gathered as much goodwill with the public as the amnesty does. Having a hundred thousand people taking about how they got pissed on nicely chilled cans of your brand of beer for next to no money will do wonders compared to the 5 minutes of TV ad space they could've got for the same amount as they spent giving it away.

Some people think they offset their costs somehow using the traded in cans. I've heard rumours that they are sold on in the far east, but to be honest I don't know that I really believe them. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if it's some kind of clever tax refund scheme, especially with all the extra technicalities on selling alcohol. I don't really know anything about alcohol duty, but it's plausible that if they bring, say 100,000 cans to a festival and leave with 100,000 cans that are taken off the market they can claim it as some kind of deduction on their books. Again, could be BS, but it's at least somewhat plausible. Then again, like I said, even if they did eat the full cost it's not like it would be a bad investment in terms of PR.

Tuborg was the only lager available at Latitude last year too. Its not that bad stuff but what was odd is that everyone seemed to think it was some kind of "new" brand.

Back when lager was first introduced to the UK it was one of the few you could readily get along with Skol and Hofmeister. It disapeared under the rader for a bit (20-25 odd years!) but it looks like Carlsberg are trying to bring it back.

i might be wrong but as far as i know tuborg dose not come in cans, only bottles. there lies the reason tuborg wouldnt be able to do the amnesty.

justlooked on tesco and asda website and they only have it listed in bottles.

If it doesn't come in crates what the f*ck was I drinking at Download last year?! tongue.gif

I like Tuborg, but it was £30 a crate at Download last year which may be a bit steep for some

Tuborg popular in holiday resorts in Greece and Turkey, thats where I know it from. To be honest, its piss, as is Carlsberg, but its a better quality of piss than Carling, and lets face it, we've dodged a bullet in not getting Foster's. Oh for a Bombardier or London Pride festival...

Carling was £20-£25 on the campsite at L&R wasn't it? So its not too much of a leap. (And it was something ridiculous like £50 at V)

Beer has a pretty long shelf life, wouldn't surprise me to find out Carling just sold the beer back to the suppliers it came from to recoup a little money.

At Reading at least (don't know about Leeds) the price in the campsite doesn't matter that much, because there's loads of people outside selling crates of everythin pretty cheap.

Everyone contact tuborg and tell them abotu the cold beer amnesty.

Maybe even throw in a "i dont know what it is, but whenever im at a bar now, i feel like i have to drink carling".

If we get 100 people to do it, theyll probably cave in and ask FR about a cold beer amnesty. MB - who has already said he will look into it - will be glad that the new beer company is interested in it...the ball will get rolling...we'll have our CBA back.
