vis-a-vis tent sounds like what you are looking for, typically 2 sleeping areas either side of a communial area, normally large enough to stand up in.

You can do you + partner one side, little one on their own the other side (own space, exciting for a child!)

So you can see what I am on about, Millets do a starter version here:

There are others out there.

Another option could be a larger dome design with a porch area. The millets Avon could be a tad too tight on space. There are a couple of others in their 3-4 person ranges which are variations of a tunnel design.

We have the winnipeg model which was fantastic for us. Only problem was that it was heavy to carry but we had a B&Q trolly so it was fine. Well worth it for that extra room :D

This is a great family tent IMO. We've taken our one to Glastonbury for the past 2 years though not with a family but we use it for communal space for 7 other the people we camp with.
It's great, esp if it rains, the living space is very large

Takes at least 2 people to erect though.

Nice tent for a group but would be a bit big for a couple and a child, plus at 30kg it will take some carrying even with a trolly!

The OP doesn't say if they want a tent for regular use or just once a year at glasto, if you are a regular camper it would be worth spending a bit more for a good brand like Outwell, Coleman, Khyam, Vango, Sunncamp, Wynnster, etc, the common theme with these quality tents is the weight, a good family tent is going to be weighty (as the one quoted above), a cheapo argos / halfords tent will do the job but will be lighter, not as waterproof and won't last as long. (I have a Sunncamp tourist plus that's about 15 years old and is still usable). Another factor is the likelihood of the tent being damaged / stolen at glasto, i've never had a problem but I tend to camp in a quiter part of the site, if you're going to camp in family camping I would think you would be safe taking an expensive tent. If you just want a basic once a year tent, the Millets vis a vis mentioned earlier would be fine, I would not buy a no name cheapo tent for Glasto, you are living in it for the best part of a week so you want a minimum level of protection. If you don't want to spend too much there are plenty of bargains to be had on ebay (just got myself an unused Sunncamp Evolution 600 worth £250 for £100).

i've got a coleman's waterfall. http://www.worldofcamping.co.uk/shop/colem...m=ProductSearch

i love the high roof in the living area. plenty of room for table and 3 chairs. 12.8kg, so not too bad to lug around. 1 sleeping compartment, that can be split into 2 with a sheet that is provided.

Vango Orchy 600 cannot recommend it enough, we got ours at a show (Pre Launch) in 2007 cost about £220 (You can pick it up for £179.99 here Outdoor Megastore click here but it's just brilliant, the sleeping space is at the back with a dividing curtain you can put up if you want or leave down, meaning you can put your little one inbetween you.

I've got this one....

Not that different from the Vango above, just a bit smaller. Only has 3 poles, takes 10 mins to put it up. It's all in one so ground sheet & bedrooms are intigrated. Easy Peasy.

Best thing is, as mentioned above, the bedrooms are at the back, dividing curtain is optional, so your little un will be asleep at the side of you, rather than across the porch.

£129.00 at the moment, click here

Another alternative is the Vango Tigris 400:

It's quite like the Icarus above but a slightly different shape. It has slightly thicker poles and better waterproofing, so it costs a little more (about £150). We used one at Glasto this year for just two of us, and were very happy. There is plenty of room inside for a couple plus a little un.
