QUOTE (crashnburn @ Mar 30 2009, 04:05 PM) basically a lot of people go on about certain bands being obnoxious at glasto and upsetting certain people on these forumns - being not in the spirit of glastonbury. such as primal scream threatening everyone and bright eyes slagging off john peel. i'm just quite curious about this as it puzzles me
at bestival i saw my bloody valentine (these are one of the bands i have heard are rumouired to play) they played whatr i thought was a great set but on the penultamate song played feedback for over 10 minutes (i know this because i went to the toilet got a beer and checked out another stage and they were still doing the same feed back) and then did the last 30 seconds normally.
it really pisse all my mates off and they were slagging my bloody valentine off all weekend
I just wondered if this is one of the things that would offend at glasonbury? it it against the spirit is it ?just plain rude to the punters? what is the glasto etiqute?
personnally i like awkard bastards, i think thats one of thing that gets great music created and that sort of pissing about belongs at glastonbury and that people get a little high and mighty on the forumns about awkarfd people
ps i think bright eyes and the scream are great to and would sprint to see tehem aif they play My Bloody Valentine do that at every single gig; they play you made me realise and then do 17mins of one note feedbacked to shit then the last bit of the song. When i saw them do it at the roundhouse I f**king loved it, I thought it was so wicked to hear, it just blew the shit out of any other band that play loud. Like you're whole body was shaking from the bass. But it has recieved mixed responses from alot of people. So many people left the gig, or slagged it off afterwards. It's definately a marmite part of there live show.

QUOTE (pezzypops @ Mar 30 2009, 03:13 PM) but... that's what MBV do! and they're the best at doing it (maybe apart from sonic youth) and if that doesn't float your boat just check out bilinda butcher, she's quite the hottie still oh, and conor oberst of bright eyes later apologized for his indiscretion, i didn't see it but i saw them on the pyramid in 04 and other stage in 07 and they were fantastic both times. i only got into bright eye's in 08 and they didnt play, you rekon there is any glimor of hope of them playing this year?

QUOTE (robith @ Mar 30 2009, 04:25 PM) At the Roundhouse when I went it was 28 minutes. At 125db - that's the equivalent of a jet taking off The volume was apparently different each night, it got louder and louder. Didn't help that I was standing infront of the stacks on the left hand side though. And it wasn't that long I don't think. I'll have to give the bootleg another listen tonight and check.

i saw MBV at roskilde last year - a lot of people left during the holocaust. but i think that's because MBV aren't as well known over there, and so it wasn't as 'expected' didn't have my noise monitoring gear on me like the person above... but it was 'king loud! i wanted to watch/listen (as they're probably in my top five favourite bands) - i was on the barrier, and even i had trouble physically withstanding that kind of noise level - i couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculously, painfully loud it was afterwards. i'm convinced kevin shields isn't human. but yeah, like everyone else has said - it's what they do, and whether its good or bad it certainly provokes a reaction. and plus i would listen to it twice in a row if it meant i could see the rest of the set again - amazing! didn't realise they were rumoured for gbury

QUOTE (pezzypops @ Mar 30 2009, 08:50 PM) it'll sound terrible if its not live, its the sheer volume that creates the effect. but listen to their album Loveless, one of the best albums of all time. 100% true and to abbathehorse; i guess the whole reason it's such a spectacle is because short of building your own massive PA and turning everything up to 11 with all the equipment set to deafen (or standing a couple of feet from a jet engine) you can't really reproduce it at home, so yeah youtube not much use... i won't lie, i'm probably one of their biggest fans, but it isn't particularly pleasant (hence why it's referred to as 'the holocaust') it is interesting and provoking though. i would love to see it on an outside stage... preferably a few hundred meters away this time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDkXBI05Fh8I was cocky at the Glasgow barrowlands gig and refused to put in ear pluggs which they were handing out for free pre-gig. Couldn't hear properly till a couple of days later! Well worth it though. Would love to see them at Glasto, ideal JP headliners in my opinion!
