I was so against Jay Z apearing at Glasto and made my voice heard on this forum.
Well having seen him on TV last night and again on I player I take it all back.
He was amazing and a real entertainer.
It takes a big man to admit he is wrong and that is what am doing right here right now.
I hope that everybody has had a great weekend, it looks like you have!!!
Anyway off to watch some more (I got 99 problems etc etc etc)

I think that you are supposed to wait for someone else to call you a big man. Self-proclamation doesn't work!

Such a shame that the Jay-Z hype ( personally i thought he was pants) will overshadow the truly epic performance by The Verve that closed Glastonbury.....

I have to eat my words with the Verve. I really did not think they would be up to it and by the look of it they were.

well i didn't go to see jay-z because his music doesn't appeal to me - but if he's your thing then I have no problem with that... I don't agree with putting artists down.

BUT having seen the killers last year the whole field was packed so not sure how anyone can claim his audience was bigger!

I went along to see if he could pull it off.
He didn't IMO and I thought a lot of the crowd started to dispurse early and go check out other areas.

For those of you who were at the festival you will be pleased to here that the press coverage of Jay Z has be extatic going so far as to compare it with Radiohead 97, claiming near universal acclaim for the chap and his performance.

Well I was stood right at the back on the path and I thought: a. the sound was really clear (even managing to drown out the chatterers) and b. the hill was rammed. Was difficult to fight my way up the edge from the Mandela Bar. I only arrived from Massive Attack during the Rhianon (sp?) number - I was hoping Beyonce would make an appearance wink.gif - but was impressed with his command of the audience. I wished I'd seen the whole thing.

A little OTT me thinks. Listening to the radio on the way home Yesterday he was generally a hit with the critics. Thought it was quite ironic that the biggest cheer of the night was for Wonderwall at the beginning of his set!

An absolute must read article. The funniest thing I have read in a while.

Tim "The Big Dog" Westwood does a Glasto reveiw for the Guardian......

http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/06/...m_westwood.html

Now why do people call him the Alan Partridge of hip hop blink.gif

i watched it on telly and it was ok, the amount of negative discussion beforehand was just stupid (i'm sure cypress hill headlined reading about 15 years ago and no one blinked an eyelid ) ,

but this greatest set ever stuff is just as dumb. where were all the special guest that were hyped up and could have elevated it into something really special. maybe it was a pride thing as no one said the kings of leon needed gimics to headline, so why should it be different for jay-z, which is fair enough, but it did feel it was slightly less than what was promised

lupe fiasco's set on the jazz world looked much more entertaining.

Well i have to say i thought if i missed the performance i would regret it so went along to take it in.

Loved the beginning, but after that it was all downhill.

So in the end i didnt miss the performance, but i did regret it, IMHO opinion it seemed he has some pretty big chips on his shoulder, and some pretty big unhidden agendas in his *ahem* "music"

if you were down the front then you really were in for a treat. the crowd was so up for it and he played all of his best songs and singles. The opening video was class and the wonderwall singalong was GENIUS. but Westwood reviewing Jay-Z? f**king no chance.
