Fratellis last night then, well, not great to be honest, not appalling, far from it, just the sound was weedy and they struggled at times to recreate the sound that was on the album, they definitely would have benefited from an additional guitarist, and a little tightness to proceedings. Also the PA or sound man wasn’t really that good. They sort of shambled into songs, the guitarist started and the drummer joined in when the mood took him, they were ok and I still love them on record, but do not feel the need to go and watch them again.
Tonight we are back at Birmingham academy for Rancid, they have a new drummer, he used to be in the used, I see this really as the beginning of the end, rancid arent a band that have had an ever evolving line up, it has been pretty much static over the years and the loss of brett will be felt, not immediately but if they do record another album I will be surprised. They have said that each night of the uk tour they are going to be doing a different set each night, sticking in operation ivy tracks and lars fredderickson tracks, during their LA residency early on the year I know they did knowledge with lars on lead vocals so if they do that I will be very happy, and last time I saw them they did the billy bragg cover lars does, so that will be high up on my wish list. Hopefully it should be a great night.
