So I've just been told that the factory where I work is being closed by the parent company.

Not the best news I could have received with the new baby less than three weeks away.

Oh hell  That's not good. Have you been there a while - as in enough time to at least get some kind of redundancy package to keep the wolf from the door? Will keep my fingers crossed you get something sorted sharpish!

Thanks. I've been with the company for 15 years and the redundancy terms are going to be generous so that's not such a problem. The biggest issue is going to be to find another job with a similar salary and benefits (final salary pension scheme anyone?) in the current climate and the possibility of the disruption of having to relocate to another part of the country. :)

Oh dear, I've been off on planet selfish old cow and missed this one, sorry to hear that mate. Hope you get something soon. If it's any consolation whenever I've had this happen / seen it happen to others they'e always ended up better off in the end, and if you get something soon you can choose to use some of that redundancy money to have a few weeks with your nipper, and use the rest for something handy. Good luck!
