last updated : Wed 21st Jun 06 Over 150 artists and groups from around the world will be participating in the Festival of World Cultures held in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. The festival is now in its 6th year and takes place over three days from Friday 25th of August to Sunday 27th of August. The festival will be held in 40 different venues and will feature artists from 50 different countries. This year the Festival includes global music, street theatre, dance, club nights, markets, exhibitions, workshops and activities for children. From Colombian cumbia to Moroccan gnawa and Johannesburg jive, gospel rappers to punk-rock folk, intercultural speed dating to Tibetan folk dance, the Festival of World Cultures creates a cacophony of global beats and community events for all ages. Participating artists come from afar as Algeria, Tibet, Sudan, Israel, Cuba, Poland, Niger, Russia and Mexico. The idea is that audiences can sample a planet of diverse cultures without having to leave Ireland. For those that cannot make it to Dun Laoghaire, highlights of the Festival will be broadcast on RTÉTwo in September. The full program of artists has now been announced. Confirmed to perform at the festival include the Mike McGoldrick Band, Etran Finitawa, Warsaw Village Band, Enzo Avitabile and Bottari, Trio Bulgarka, and more.
