Welsh Samba Encontro 2010

The Welsh Encontro 2010 takes place over the May Day Bank Holiday from Saturday 1st until Monday 3rd May 2010 and is continuing the emerging tradition of Welsh Encontros. The first (2004) and second (2005) were held in Cardiff, the third (2007) organised by Samba Tawe in Swansea were all great successes and built relationships with bands from across the UK, Ireland and Brittany. The Welsh Encontro 2010 aims to build on this.

The Encontro will again be based around the Urdd Centre (part of the Millennium Centre) Roald Dahl Plass (Welsh: Plas Roald Dahl), a public plaza in Cardiff Bay, in the heart of Cardiff Bay.

The programme will include training workshops with reputable international trainers, performances from visiting bands in the city centre and Cardiff Bay area, a showcase of music and dance at the Coal Exchange featuring performing artists from across the UK, and Sambadrome – a mass performance of all the visiting samba bands in Roald Dahl Plass, Cardiff Bay.

Ticket prices have not yet been confirmed, and tickets are not yet on sale.

Accommodation

There is a limited number of bed spaces available in the Urdd Centre, you will need to book your beds quickly (these sold out within a few weeks in 2005). The rooms are all en-suite and hold between 2 and 6 people. The cost per person for the two nights is just £76. Breakfast is included in the price and there are numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants in the immediate vicinity for other meals. Bookings can also be taken for the Friday night (April 30th).
