T in the Park 2006 reviews Tue 11th Jul 06 Kubb are irritatingly bad, sounding worryingly like a tribute to Embrace (and an awful one at that) and delivering monotonous sleep inducing soft soft rock. Actually rock might be a bit of a compliment. In a nutshell they’re just unbelievably dull. They have all the worse elements of bands like Doves and Elbow, and admittedly are worse than both. They are the musical equivalent of a pirate DVD from Tunisia; frustrating to watch, nowhere near as good as the real thing and people keep getting up and leaving all the time. As if Kubb weren’t boring enough they decided to sink the final nail in a coffin that should have been built the day after they were formed by saying “We’re gonna slow it down a bit now”. I can’t take much more, and neither can most of the King Tut’s Wah Wah tent who are pouring out in their droves. I wondered off not being able to face the insipid ‘Grow’, unimpressed and wondering if Kubb are anything more than a glorified boyband with guitars. review by Scott Johnson
