SXSW (South By South West) 2008

The dates for 2008 are confirmed as 12th to 16th March 2008.

SXSW - South By South West - is a festival held in Austin, Texas, USA each spring, as a showcase for bands around the world to the world's music industry. There's also a film and interactive element to the festival.

During the festival Austin's bars, clubs, pubs and streets become home to a variety of acts. To read a review from last year's event click here.

The music section of the festival will take place from March 12th to 16th, the film section will last from March 7th to the 15th, and the interactive section from the 7th to the 11th. Van Morrison has confirmed. Punk band X are due to play along with The Donnas, The Raveonettes, Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong, and Oppenheimer. International hip hop is provided by Dizzee Rascal, Del the Funkee Homosapien, Jammer and The Newham Generals, Tumi, Lars Vaular, Giselle Numba 1, and Mala Rodriguez. Ubiquity Recordings will present Darondo, Ohmega Watts, Brownout, DJ Pari and DJ Chicken George. Tomlab, teams up with Anticon for a showcase with Why?, Son Lux, Misha, Thee Oh Sees, Hey Willpower and No Kids. Paper Bag Records and Upper Class Recordings team up bringing Sally Shapiro, The Acorn, Laura Barrett, Cadence Weapon, The Russian Futurists, and The Cansecos. The Ponderosa Stomp bring Little Freddie King, Kenny and the Kasuals, Ralph Soul Jackson, Herman Hitson, Wiley and the Checkmates, Barbara Mason, Michael Hurtt and the Haunted Hearts and The Flaming Arrows Mardi Gras Indians. So far The Black Crowes, R.E.M. and Dolly Parton showcases have been announced. SXSW Music Festival has announced the showcasing Artists. This list is subject to change. Around 1,400 bands play in around 60 venues in the city during the festival.
