Somerton Summer Arts Festival is a 9 day festival running from the Friday 11th to Saturday 19th July 2014, now in its 27th year the event continues to offer where possible free entertainment to the community with a wide range of events including: a festival in the square, a fun day for all the family, a wide range of music, art & photography exhibition, talks & workshops, drama, quiz night, variety show and comedy.

Line-up

Original Sounds from: Red Priest, The Rivertones Harmony Chorus, Combyne ‘Arvester.

Local Bands: The Fat Marrow Band, Kayleigh, Storm, Nevertheless, Somerton Festival Band, D-State, Tone Valley Jazz Band, Josie Mitchell

Plus Music from Tribute Acts including: Conmittments, The Great Pretender, Heroes, Oas-is, The Sensational Sound of the 60’s with Beatles & Roy Orbison, Elvis & Bassett’s allsorts and Berties Big Band with Flanders & Swan Recaptured.

Comedy, Drama and Variety Show: “The Wind in the Willows”, Richard Digence, Family Variety Show

Poetry Reading: Reflecting on the WW1 with readings, audio clips and videos

Walk: With Bob Harris around Somerton

Festival Quiz

Talks and Workshops: Beer Brewing, Steam Trains, Digital photography and David Heath

Art & Photography exhibition and new for this year a Sewing Exhibition in the Festival marquee

Tickets

Some events are ticketed, with many “free ticket” events. Tickets can be purchased at Overt Locke, Somerton, daily, Mon - Sat or White Hart, Somerton, Fridays 6.30 -9pm.

Venues

The White Hart, The Unicorn Hotel, The Edgar Community Hall, Lady Smith Memorial Hall, St Michael and All Angels Church, Somerton Library, the Market Bar plus the Festival Marque located on the Somerton Sports and Recreation Ground.

Festival in the Square and Market Day

The heart of Somerton will host the craft and market stalls, and the free entertainment. There's also an exhibition of what Somerton was like before the outbreak of the Great War in the Parish rooms.

Plus a 5 hour Fun Day, offering various activities, learn new skills, bounce on the bouncy castle, and face painting whilst listening to local young bands or bag a bargain at the boot sale.

The Festival Variety Show is “non-competitive” with performances by local people of all ages and if last years evening is anything to go by a fantastic night with lots of local talent and a wonderful evening of entertainment for all the family.

Accommodation

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
