Ruisrock is one of Europe's oldest rock festivals and takes place annually on the picturesque island of Ruissalo, Turku, in Finland. The dates for 2009 are from Friday 3rd, to Sunday 5th of July.
The first acts confirmed for 2009 are headliners Slipknot, Mew, and Disturbed, with Faith No More, The Crash, Calexico, Ladytron, Volbeat, Neurosis, The Sounds, In Flames, !!!, The Gaslight Anthem, Gogol Bordello, The Living End, Stone, Children of Bodom, Pilgrimz, The Wildhearts, Tehosekoitin, Eppu Normaali, Amorphis, Apulanta, CMX, Egotrippi, Kotiteollisuus, Maija Vilkkumaa, Mokoma, PMMP, Magenta Skycode, Callisto, Le Corps Mince de Francoise, The Capital Beat, Regina, First Aid Kit, Anna Puu, Joensuu 1685.and Scandinavian Music Group. The line-up is usually quite loaded with Scandinavian, and Finnish bands for the list of acts confirmed see the bottom of the page.
Early bird tickets were on sale priced. Tickets for 3 days are priced at 105 euro, to buy them then, click here. Besides regular printed tickets there are also electronic PDF and SMS tickets available. The sale of 1-day tickets will start later this spring.
The festival has four large stages, and a few small ones. There are the usual kind of festival fare food, plus merchandise areas, stalls and Guitar Hero stands etc.In 2008 there was even a circus.
Camping spaces must be booked beforehand in the official camping site of Ruisrock. There are also accommodation options available on the island, but they tend to get booked up quickly, so it is best to book early.
Most festival goers come by train from Helsinki which has transport links to Europe.
Turku does also have an airport with air links to Belgium, Denmark, and Poland.
