Reading Festival reviews Tue 29th Aug 06 The Radio 1 tent openers on the first day of Reading festival are Duels, Leeds’ five piece present for us most of their album ‘The Bright Lights and What I Should Have Learned’ starting with first track ‘Sisters and Brothers’ as well as new song ‘I, Mosquito’. It seems a regular trend for bands to have a girl on keyboard duties and Duels is the first of many on this stage today. The band attract a big crowd which continues to grow and they sound like they have the potential to move to main stages next year. The music is well received although this could be down to them being the first band of the weekend, and everyone being over excited at finally being here. I doubt that though and suspect they’ll go from strength to strength. They supply catchy indie-pop tunes with big hooks and lots of potential sing alongs for the growing crowd. Stand out tracks for me are ‘The Slow Build’ and ‘Once In The Night’ which are great anthems for their fans. review by Scott Williams
