Reading Festival 2005 review Thu 1st Sep 05 They have a sound in the same vein as Bloc Party and look an odd mix of people. However the difference between them and Bloc Party is that they are far less supported as the tent is far from full. The sound they create is very rhythmic with a funky guitar lead, steady bassline, ethereal vocals and dance/floaty keyboards. The guitar is wonderful from the lead singer very free flowing and the sound hypnotic. There set is a little beset with technical problems and their third song fizzles out, but they get back into their groove and build their set well, with more and more of the tent slowly drawn in to the dancing. They play much from the new album ‘Night on Fire’ and its mixture of dance and rock is well paced. The bass and synths blend together well and lead singer Craig Pfunder’s voice is strange and complex. His guitar playing virtuoso and the over all impression is that they may well have much more to come yet. A night slot would suit them better but I liked the music they presented to us, despite the glitches. review by Scott Williams
