Reading Festival 2005 review Wed 31st Aug 05 Steve Lamacq introduced the Yorkshire based band by saying he saw them for his 40th birthday and said it was the best band he could have seen. Praise indeed for The Cribs who have attracted a decent crowd, who know all the words and sing along loudly , filling the tent with noise. I’m a bit surprised how popular they are. The new single ‘Martell’ sounds good enough to push them into the limelight a bit more and their short set consists of live versions of tracks from debut album ‘The New Fellas.’ I don’t know the titles of the songs I hear but they are surely shot through with irony, though looking around I’m not sure many get the wit. This uncertainty spreads, the more I look around the crowd, but fortunately a few seconds later their music quality has me forgetting it. Melodic and full of pace, nice. The three piece are bound to be back with more tunes in the future. review by Scott Williams
