eFestivals is offering the opportunity to win two tickets for the unique Dharma Festival at Gaunts House, Wimborne, Dorset, where you can immerse yourself in the magical world of Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred storytelling tradition of Kathakali actors from South India amidst the beautiful Dorset countryside.

The festival brings together two ancient cultures in the same place for the first time. In the library of Gaunts House you can watch as Tibetan monks construct a tantric sand mandala out of millions of grains of coloured 'sand' - creating the sacred residence of the Buddha Chenrezig. In the ballroom, Kalamandalam Haridas will make one of the traditional images of the Kathakali tradition, with only natural materials, ground to a powder, and using only his fingertips. Both these magnificent works of art - so transient in nature - will be destroyed in separate rituals during the festival, illustrating the return of all things to their natural state.

Kathakali artists and actors will spend three days at Gaunts House running participatory drumming workshops and offering a chance to see the extraordinary makeup used in their performances being applied. On Thursday and Friday evening you can watch as the sacred story-telling drama unfolds to the accompaniment of drums and music, using expressive hand gestures to explain its meaning. Tashi Lhunpo monks will teach some of the dance steps of the 'cham' - monastic masked dance from the Tibetan New Year - and you can print prayer flags, make butter sculpture and even have a go at using the 'chagpurs' - metal funnels used to make the intricate designs in the sand mandala. On Saturday night, you can see a performance of the cham dance itself, with its magnificent costumes, masked dancers and listen to the sacred monastic chant of Tibet.

During the festival, the renowned English-speaking Buddhist teacher, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, will be giving a series of talks on the Six Paramitas. Rinpoche is well-known for his wisdom and humour and is the official representative of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa in Europe. He has written a number of books, including a series of publications under the title 'The Lazy Lama', as well as books for children in both Tibetan and European languages.

Famous worldwide as a singing-bowl master, Frank Perry will be holding workshops and meditations during the Friday of the festival. His book, 'Himalayan Sound Revelations' is the ultimate reference book on singing bowls, their uses and methods. You can also treat yourself to special natural treatments at Sarpenela in the healing area, or simply spend time enjoying the beautiful Dorset countryside in the grounds of Gaunts House.

The Dharma Festival at Gaunts House is a five day celebration of the ancient sacred cultures of Tibet and South India, happening over five days from Wednesday 15th to Sunday 19th July 2015 at the tranquil Dorset country house setting of Gaunts House, near Wimborne, in Dorset.
